Prices continue to decrease
According to the survey, durian in Can Tho City is currently being sold by farmers in the garden to traders at a price 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg lower than 2 weeks ago. Ri 6 durian is sold in the garden for 32,000 - 40,000 VND/kg; the type of least gusts or pests, etc. is below 20,000 VND/kg. Mon Thong durian is priced higher, ranging from 55,000 - 60,000 VND/kg.

According to farmers, prices have decreased due to strong supply increases while the export market is slow.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tho (Phong Dien district, Can Tho city) said that due to unfavorable weather, the flowering and bearing of durian did not occur evenly. In addition to increased production costs, this also leads to durian having to be divided into many harvests.
"If at the end of May, traders came to the garden to buy Ri 6 durian at 35,000 VND/kg (beautiful variety), then now, this price is only 32,000 VND/kg. However, I still sell because I don't harvest in time, I'm afraid it will affect the health of the crop," said Mr. Tho.
Another durian farmer in O Mon district, Can Tho city said that this year's durian crop has a production cost of 10 - 15% higher due to the impact of weather and increased fertilizer prices. Meanwhile, the market's consumption difficulties have caused durian prices to decrease, and farmers are anxiously waiting for the harvest day.
"My durian this year has left fruit late. Now I just hope for the harvest day soon because prices seem to be getting lower and lower, output is difficult, especially the export market is quite slow," farmers shared.
Opportunities from connecting consumption
Currently, Can Tho City has over 7,000 hectares of durian growing area, with an estimated output of about 70,000 tons. Notably, durian is entering the peak harvest season, if it is prolonged, it will cause damage to crop health, while the cost of farmers' investment in the crop is very high.
In 2024, the city's durian production and export situation achieved many positive results. Entering the first half of 2025, the consumption market is having difficulty and prices are falling.

To remove immediate and long-term difficulties, the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City has proactively asked for approval from the People's Committee of Can Tho City, coordinated with Can Tho International Airport and businesses to connect domestic durian consumption. The first step was to bring 2 tons of durian rice (equivalent to 7 - 8 tons of whole durian) into the box to ensure quality distribution at supermarkets and retail stores in the Hai Phong market.
This consumption connection program is expected by the Department of Industry and Trade to create a domestic consumption channel, diversify the market, and help reduce difficulties for durian farmers in Can Tho City.
Not stopping there, in the coming time, the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City plans to continue expanding its durian consumption channel to other major cities such as Hanoi, Da Nang, Vinh... to diversify the domestic market, reduce consumption pressure for farmers and businesses.
Commercial units are also required to commit to providing quality products, ensuring reputation and food safety when distributing to the market.
