Domestic pepper prices: Rising in some areas
As of 11am today (20.1), domestic pepper prices have increased and decreased alternately, an average increase of slightly by 200 VND/kg compared to the previous trading session. Currently, the purchase price ranges from 159,500 - 160,500 VND/kg. The average pepper purchase price nationwide is at 159,800 VND/kg.
The provinces and cities still maintain the same trading mark as before, except for Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Phuoc provinces, which simultaneously increased by VND 500/kg, reaching VND 159,500/kg.

World pepper prices: The market is bustling
According to the International Pepper Community, on trading floors, black and white pepper prices in the Indonesian market continued to decline. Black pepper prices decreased by 0.59%, fluctuating around 7,255 USD/ton (equivalent to 186,672 VND/kg). At the same decrease, the price of white pepper was announced at 10,190 USD/ton (equivalent to 262,189 VND/kg).
For the Brazilian market, the price of ASTA 570 black pepper is still trading at 6,900 USD/ton.
In the Malaysian market, ASTA black and white pepper prices have remained unchanged for many days, anchored at 9,800 USD/ton and 12,300 USD/ton.
Notably, in Vietnam, black pepper prices for export unexpectedly fluctuated after a series of stagnant days. The 500 g/l type increased by 1.41% to trade at 7,100 USD/ton (equivalent to 182,683 VND/kg); the 550 g/l type is currently at 7,300 USD/ton (equivalent to 185,112 VND/kg), up 1.37%. Similarly, the price of white pepper for export also increased to 10,100 USD/ton (equivalent to 259,873 VND/kg).

In the Indian market, pepper prices remain unchanged in most pepper cultivars. Garbled pepper costs 67,200 rupees/kg, (equivalent to 206,264 VND/kg), Ungarbled is listed at 65.200 rupees/kg, while gram/liter has the lowest price of 64,200 rupees/kg (exchanged at 197,056 VND/kg).

Assessment and forecast
According to the Vietnam Pepper and Spices Association (VPSA), in the first 15 days of March 2025, Vietnam exported 7,139 tons of pepper, with a total export turnover of 49.1 million USD. The United States, India and Germany were the 3 largest export markets of Vietnam in the first half of March, reaching 1,268 tons, 649 tons and 638 tons respectively.
Vietnam has imported 1,731 tons, with a turnover of 10.3 million USD. Vietnam's pepper imports mainly from Brazil accounted for 67.4%, reaching 1,167 tons, followed by Indonesia accounting for 22.9%, reaching 397 tons.
It is forecasted that in the short term, domestic pepper prices will decrease slightly due to local pressure from supply when the main harvest is in the season. On the other hand, in the international market, pepper prices are expected to maintain an upward trend thanks to high demand and limited supply.
