Assessment and forecast
Domestic pepper prices are forecast to continue to fluctuate slightly during the blooming harvest period, however, the market is having many supporting factors. Although it has entered the main harvest season, the amount of goods brought to the market is still limited because farmers tend to keep goods thanks to good income from coffee in the previous crop. Demand from traders and speculators is also contributing to keeping prices stable.
By the end of the first quarter of 2025, Vietnam had exported 47,660 tons of pepper, earning 326.6 million USD. Although output decreased by 16.1% over the same period, turnover increased by 38.6% thanks to the strong increase in average export prices - black pepper reached 6,711 USD/ton (up nearly 95%), white pepper reached 8,617 USD/ton (up nearly 74%).
However, the pepper industry also faces major challenges, especially from the 10% import tax policy that the US has temporarily postponed for 90 days. This is a barrier that has caused many US businesses to temporarily suspend trading, putting competitive pressure on Brazilian and Indonesian peppers.
