Domestic pepper prices
Today (September 20), domestic pepper prices traded in the range of 137,000 - 141,000 VND/kg, slightly down 200 VND/kg.
At the end of last week, Gia Lai and Dong Nai still anchored at the threshold of 137,000 VND/kg.
Ho Chi Minh City listed at the price range of 137,500 VND/kg.
Meanwhile, Dak Lak decreased by 1,000 VND/kg compared to the closing session last week, reaching the mark of 139,000 VND/kg.
Lam Dong province is currently offering to the market at the highest price of 141,000 VND/kg.
After a week of strong increase, exceeding the 140,000 VND/kg mark, the domestic pepper market maintained a stable state throughout the week.
World pepper price
According to data from the International Pepper Corporation (IPC), pepper prices last week increased and decreased alternately.
Indonesia's black pepper price is currently anchored at 6,886 USD/ton, down 53 USD/ton compared to the previous week. In the same direction, Indonesia's white pepper price decreased by another 72 USD/ton last week, to 9,428 USD/ton.
Meanwhile, the price of black pepper ASTA 570 of Brazil remained unchanged at 5,750 USD/ton compared to last week.
Notably, Malaysian black and white peppers suddenly slipped in price after many months of stagnation, at 12,150 USD/ton and 9,250 USD/ton respectively, down from 50 - 100 USD/ton.
In Vietnam, the pepper export market is trending upwards in price. Black pepper prices of 500 g/l and 550 g/l are traded at 6,070 - 6,130 USD/ton, an increase of 80 USD/ton. ASTA white pepper is offered for sale at 8,450 USD/ton, an increase of 50 USD/ton.
Assessments and forecasts
According to estimates by the Vietnam Pepper and Spice Plant Association (VPSA), the pepper inventory of producing countries has reached the lowest level in many years with about 170,000 tons, of which Vietnam is about 50,000 - 60,000 tons, reflecting that export supply continues to be quite limited and creating a foundation to support pepper prices to maintain at a high level.
In the context of reduced supply and low inventories, consumption demand is still under pressure from instability caused by conflicts in the Middle East and US tariff policies.
According to the US International Trade Commission (USITC), the US imported 47,564 tons of pepper in the first 6 months of the year, up 4.6% compared to the same period in 2025.
In the first half of 2026, Vietnam surpassed Indonesia, rising to lead in pepper exports to China, with a volume of 1,980 tons, an increase of 19.9% compared to the same period last year. Thanks to that, the market share of Vietnamese pepper in the Chinese market increased sharply from 33.2% to 54.7%.
World pepper prices fell in July but recovered slightly in August and moved sideways in the first days of September. The market in general continued to be under pressure from geopolitical instability in the Middle East, supply competition between major producing countries and the cautious sentiment of importers.
