Domestic pepper prices: Unexpectedly stable
As of 12:00 today (September 4), the domestic pepper market is unchanged. Currently, pepper purchasing prices are recorded at prices ranging from 144,000 - 146,000 VND/kg.
Pepper prices in Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Dak Nong are at 145,000 VND/kg.
Gia Lai and Binh Phuoc are both listed at VND144,000/kg. Meanwhile, Dak Lak is the province with the highest purchasing price in the country at 146,000 VND/kg.

World pepper prices: intertwined increases and decreases
In the world market, pepper prices unexpectedly fluctuated after a stable day. The Indonesian exchange - one of the busiest markets - continued to increase slightly. Currently, these two items have increased by 0.05% and 0.06%, respectively listed at 7,432 USD/ton (equivalent to 195,120 VND/kg); white pepper is listed at 10,135 USD/ton (about 266,085 VND/kg).
In Vietnam, the export price of black pepper of 500 g/l and 550 g/l decreased by more than 3%, bringing the price to around 6,300 - 6,400 USD/ton (equivalent to 165,401 - 168,026 VND/kg). ASTA white pepper prices fell 2.15%, down to 9,300 USD/ton (about 244,163 VND/kg).
On the other hand, the Malaysia and Brazil exchanges were stable. Malaysia's white rice continues to hold the highest price globally at 11,850 USD/ton (equivalent to 311,110 VND/kg).

Assessment and forecast
According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in May, Vietnam's pepper exports were estimated at 25 thousand tons with a value of 176 million USD, down 5.4% in volume and 4.4% in value compared to the previous month, and compared to the same period last year, down to 19.6% in volume but up 26.1% in value.
In the first 5 months of 2025, pepper exports reached 98.6 thousand tons with a revenue value of 684.4 million USD, down 13.6% in volume but up 39.2% in value compared to the same period in 2024.
The main reason is thanks to the average export pepper price in the first 5 months of the year is estimated at 6,937 USD/ton, up 61.1% over the same period in 2024. In May alone, export price reached 7,039 USD/ton, up 1% compared to the previous month and up nearly 57% over the same period.
The market showed signs of stagnation since April as trade tensions escalated. Although this is the busiest time of the year for business activities, the spice market in general and the pepper market in particular cannot avoid negative impacts.
