Vinh Long tightens inspection and control of smuggling and counterfeit goods

HOÀNG LỘC |

Vinh Long - Faced with increasingly sophisticated smuggling and counterfeit goods, the authorities tightened inspection, protecting the market and consumers.

More than 4,400 inspections

Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Vinh Long province - said that in the first 9 months of the year, functional forces in the province organized nearly 4,400 inspections and controls, contributing to improving the effectiveness of market management.

Through inspection, the authorities discovered 656 violations, including 4 cases of particularly serious banned goods, which are drugs, drifting ashore, without identifying the owner, causing many difficulties in handling. For the remaining cases, the authorities have administratively sanctioned 652 violations, forcing more than VND 26.5 billion to be paid to the state budget.

According to Mr. Tuan, the main violating items are cigarettes, river sand, household appliances, fertilizers, phone accessories, motorbike spare parts, clothes, etc. These are areas that are often exploited, greatly affecting the market and consumer rights.

In the last months of the year, the supply and demand of goods will fluctuate many times as businesses increase the supply of goods to serve the market. This is the "golden time" for subjects to mix counterfeit and poor quality goods. Industry and functional forces regularly inspect and thoroughly handle to create a "steel shield" to protect consumers, while maintaining fair and healthy competition for genuine businesses.

Resolutely handle, no forbidden areas

Mr. Nguyen Truc Son - Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 389 - said that the locality is focusing on socio-economic development associated with market stability and maintaining macroeconomic stability.

According to Mr. Son, the top priority at present is to build a healthy competitive environment, resolutely handle unjustified business activities, protect the rights of businesses, production facilities and consumers.

To achieve this goal, the province has completed the Steering Committee 389, clearly assigning responsibilities according to the two-level government model, identifying focal points and resources for implementation.

Members must enhance their sense of responsibility, coordinate closely, and at the same time establish a timely information sharing mechanism to effectively handle arising issues.

Mr. Son noted that the sectors and members of the Steering Committee need to develop a focused and key inspection plan, contributing to stabilizing the circulation of goods, strictly handling "right person, right incident", absolutely "no forbidden areas, no exceptions".

In particular, the authorities must stay close to the area, close to the people, and be regularly present on roads, rivers, sea roads and freight transport axes.

"supervision must be carried out continuously and quickly to promptly prevent and handle violations at the facility," Mr. Son emphasized.
