New advantages after merger open up great development space
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Lu Quang Ngoi province said that after the merger, Vinh Long will become a coastal province for the first time with a 130km long coastline, with Dinh An estuary - the starting point of the Hau River.
The seaport system includes Duyen Hai Power Center Port, Dinh An General Port Area, Tra Cu Port, and a channel for heavy-duty ships to enter the Hau River, facilitating domestic and international trade.
According to him, the province has a development strategy towards the East with a 50,000-hectare sea encroachment program, forming a type II seaport. This is an important premise for the development of the marine economy, logistics and renewable energy - identified as a spearhead economic sector.
Vinh Long also has great potential for wind power with a total capacity of over 22,100 MW. The province has currently approved 29 projects, of which 13 projects have been put into operation with a capacity of 572.75 MW.
In addition, the province is implementing a green hydrogen factory in Dinh An Economic Zone and surveying additional large-scale projects in Bao Thanh commune. With this advantage, the province is oriented to become a renewable energy export center of the country.
Vinh Long has agricultural strengths with rice, fruit trees, seafood and coconut - the advantage after the merger, creating a large value chain. Tourism expands from river gardens to the sea, associated with unique cultural and ecological heritage.
Mr. Ngoi emphasized that the location between Ho Chi Minh City and Can Tho and coastal advantages help Vinh Long qualify to form a logistics center, creating momentum for trade, services and supporting industry.
Orientations and plans to realize development aspirations
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Lu Quang Ngoi province said that in the coming period, Vinh Long will develop rapidly, sustainably, adapt to climate change, striving for GRDP growth of 10% or more after 2025.
The province prioritizes processing industry, mechanical engineering, repair - shipbuilding, supporting industry, renewable energy; orients the formation of a marine economic zone with a regional logistics center and a Grade II logistics center in Dinh An.
The tourism industry is identified as a spearhead economy, implementing the planning for the period 20252030, with a vision to 2050; diversifying ecological products, communities, seas, cultures, linking localities and calling for key investments.
The marine economy is a strategic pillar, the province develops seaports, logistics, coastal wind power, offshore wind power; at the same time, invest in marine economic zones combined with urban areas, tourism, modern fishing and resort logistics services.
With the motto Solidarity - Democracy - Discipline - Breakthrough - Development, the province is determined to turn Vinh Long into a marine economic center, a renewable energy center, a regional logistics hub, entering a new era of development, said Mr. Ngoi.
