The Government has just issued Resolution No. 20/NQ-CP dated January 30, 2026 on considering and recognizing martyrs and issuing "Fatherland Remembers Merit" Certificates for 49 cases of sacrifice in the resistance war of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Military Region Commando force.
The Government decided to agree to recognize martyrs and award "Fatherland Remembers Merit" certificates to 49 cases of sacrifice in the resistance war while performing secret duties of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Military Region Commando force at the request of the Ministry of Home Affairs (special cases when not ensuring the conditions specified in Article 72 of Decree No. 131/2021/ND-CP dated December 30, 2021 of the Government detailing and measures to implement the Ordinance on Preferential Treatment for People with Meritorious Services to the Revolution); not applicable to other cases.
The Government assigned the Ministry of Home Affairs to preside over and coordinate with the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and relevant ministries, agencies, and units to organize the implementation.
Also on January 30, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 202/QD-TTg on issuing the "Fatherland Remembers Merit" Certificate.
The Prime Minister awarded the Certificate "Fatherland Remembers Merit" to 49 martyrs who were commando soldiers of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Military Region who directly fought and sacrificed in the 1968 Tet Offensive into key targets in Saigon.
Previously, on January 4, 2026, at the Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs' Cemetery, the City Party Committee and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City coordinated with the City Command and the Resistance Tradition Club of the Armed Forces - Special Forces of Saigon - Gia Dinh Military Region to solemnly organize the Inauguration Ceremony of the Memorial Stele for officers and soldiers of the Saigon - Gia Dinh Special Forces who bravely sacrificed themselves in the 1968 Tet Offensive and Uprising.
The memorial stele project is directed and implemented by the City Party Committee and People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, starting construction on February 3, 2025 at the Ho Chi Minh City Martyrs' Cemetery (Long Binh ward).
