On March 30, the People's Council (HĐND) of An Giang province, term XI, 2026-2031, held the first session - the opening session for the activities of the Provincial People's Council in the new term.
Speaking at the session, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan - Chairman of the 10th Provincial People's Council said that the recent election took place in the context of the country continuing to strongly innovate the organizational structure and complete the local government model. The success of the election once again affirmed the spirit of responsibility, consensus and trust of the People in the Party, State and government apparatus at all levels. From that result, the 11th An Giang Provincial People's Council officially went into operation, marking the transition to a new term with many expectations and higher requirements.
Looking back at the previous term, the Provincial People's Council has had many innovations in both content and methods of operation; the quality of meetings has been improved; resolutions issued are increasingly closer to reality; supervision and questioning activities have clearly changed; the role of representing the will and aspirations of the people is increasingly affirmed. More importantly, the People's Council has contributed together with the political system in the province to promptly resolve many issues arising from practice, creating favorable conditions for socio-economic development of the locality.
The new term, besides the advantages, we are also facing new requirements, requiring higher management capacity, decision-making quality and organizational efficiency. With its functions, the Provincial People's Council not only performs tasks according to regulations, but also must innovate more strongly in operating methods, to truly be a place to converge wisdom, bravery and responsibility before voters.
Therefore, the first session was held earlier than in previous terms, not only ensuring timeliness in consolidating the organization, but also clearly showing the determination to put the apparatus into operation immediately, without hindering the pace of development.
This is not only a meeting to consolidate the organizational structure of the Provincial People's Council and People's Committee, but also a step to lay the foundation for the operating method of the entire term. The contents considered and decided at this meeting, from confirming the status of delegates, electing key positions, to approving working regulations and operating plans, are all directly related to the effectiveness and efficiency of the apparatus's operation over the next 5 years," Mr. Nhan emphasized.
At the meeting, the Provincial Election Commission awarded certificates to 85 delegates elected to the An Giang Provincial People's Council of the XI term 2026-2031.
The session also listened to a summary report on the opinions and recommendations of voters in the locality in the election of provincial People's Council deputies. The standing representative of the 11th Provincial People's Council presented 2 reports on draft resolutions on the plan to organize regular meetings in 2026, and draft resolutions on promulgating working regulations of the 11th Provincial People's Council.
Regarding the recent election work, An Giang province had 2,712 polling stations, with more than 3.2 million voters participating in voting, reaching 99.7%. The results of the election of National Assembly deputies of the 16th term had 21 deputies elected; The results of the election of People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026-2031 term at the provincial level had 85 provincial People's Council deputies elected; The commune level had 2,447 commune-level People's Council deputies elected.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the An Giang Provincial Party Committee, said that in parallel with consolidating the organizational structure, it is necessary to urgently put the apparatus into unified, synchronous, and effective operation. This is a decisive premise for the success of the entire term. The Provincial Party Secretary requested that immediately after the meeting, the Standing Committee of the People's Council, the People's Council committees, the Provincial People's Committee and each delegate of the Provincial People's Council must immediately get to work, not to let confusion occur in management, delays in implementation or lack of synchronization in coordination right from the beginning of the term.
At the meeting, the election of positions of the An Giang Provincial People's Council of the XI term was organized; election of chairman, vice chairmen of the Provincial People's Council, heads of committees of the Provincial People's Council; establishment of the Committee for Ethnic Minorities; election of chairman, vice chairman, member of the Provincial People's Committee; election of people's assessors.
As a result, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan was elected to hold the position of Chairman of the People's Council of An Giang province, term XI, 2026-2031; Mr. Ho Van Mung, Member of the Party Central Committee, was elected to hold the position of Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for the term 2026 - 2031.
