The official visit to Singapore by Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu opened a new step in qualitative development in the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the invitation of the Central Executive Committee of the Singapore People's Action Party, Politburo Member, Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu and the high-level delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam will pay an official visit to Singapore and co-chair the first Vietnam - Singapore Strategic Dialogue from August 24-25, 2026.

Answering press interviews before the visit, Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong affirmed that the visit is of special significance with the first milestones. This is the first time a Standing Secretary of the Secretariat of the Communist Party of Vietnam has officially visited Singapore. This is also the first meeting of the Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue mechanism, which was just agreed upon by the leaders of the two sides during the state visit to Singapore by General Secretary and President To Lam last May. Notably, Vietnam is the first country in Southeast Asia to have a mechanism similar to the Singapore People's Action Party.

These milestones reflect a new qualitative development in the relationship between the two Parties, while creating an additional political foundation and motivation to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The visit also demonstrates the determination of both sides to bring common perceptions and high-level agreements into practice.

More than half a century since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1973, Vietnam and Singapore have built an increasingly politically reliable relationship, interest-connected and dynamic in cooperation. The highlight is that political trust is increasingly transformed into practical cooperative benefits, with important milestones such as establishing the Strategic Partnership framework in 2013 and upgrading to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025.

Economy, trade and investment are among the fields that most clearly demonstrate the essence of the two countries' relations. Singapore is Vietnam's leading important economic partner, the second largest investor in Vietnam with more than 4,500 valid projects, total registered capital of 97 billion USD, spanning many fields such as manufacturing, logistics, finance and high technology.

A prominent symbol of cooperation between the two countries is the network of 28 Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP) stretching across the country, vividly showing the combination of Singapore's planning, management and international connection experience with Vietnam's potential, resources and development determination.

According to Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong, the visit is expected to create substantive changes in Vietnam-Singapore relations in three aspects: Raising the level of exchange and strategic coordination between the two Parties; creating breakthroughs in technology connection; and at the same time raising the level of cooperation in cadre training. Thereby, transforming the common perceptions between the two Parties into specific programs, projects and cooperation results, bringing the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership into depth, efficiency and sustainability, for the benefit of the people of the two countries, for a united and prosperous ASEAN.
