Within the framework of the state visit to the Republic of Ireland, on the evening of October 3, local time, in the capital Dublin, General Secretary and President To Lam and the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation met with 130 representatives of overseas Vietnamese living, studying and working in Ireland and representatives of officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland concurrently serving in Ireland.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, talking to the people, the General Secretary and President said this was the first state visit to Ireland as General Secretary and President since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1996.
The General Secretary and President emphasized that this is an important event in the friendly relations between Vietnam and Ireland, an opportunity for the two sides to exchange and agree on directions and measures to enhance political trust and deepen cooperation between the two countries.
The General Secretary and President said that during the talks with the Irish side, he asked Ireland to continue to pay attention and create favorable conditions for our community in Ireland to live, study and work stably, integrate actively, and contribute to the development of the locality and the relationship between the two countries.
The General Secretary and President expressed his delight at the development of the Vietnamese community in Ireland. Although it is a new and young community, it is growing strongly in both quantity and quality. The majority of people have stable lives, are deeply integrated into the local society, and the intellectual potential of the community is increasingly enhanced.
The General Secretary and President praised Vietnamese associations in Ireland for their positive contributions to the community and the country.
On this occasion, the General Secretary and President respectfully thanked the contributions and "sharing the joys and sorrows" of the people with the people in the country affected by the recent storm No. 3, demonstrating national love and solidarity.
The General Secretary and President affirmed that the country is always by the side of Vietnamese compatriots abroad; the Party and State always consider the community an inseparable part, flesh and blood, and an important resource of the nation.
The General Secretary and President believes that the Vietnamese community in Ireland will continue to develop and grow, affirming its prestige and position in the host country; continue to act as a bridge between Vietnam and Ireland; and actively contribute to the country's development.
Also at the meeting, the General Secretary and President happily informed the people about the opening of the Vietnamese Embassy in Ireland; emphasizing that this is not only an important event in strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two countries but also for the Vietnamese community in Ireland, the Embassy will play the role of a common home, accompanying and supporting the people to develop and stabilize their lives in the host country.
The General Secretary and President requested the Vietnamese Embassy in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, which is also in charge of Ireland, and in the future the Vietnamese Embassy in Ireland, to continue to pay attention to and do better work for overseas Vietnamese, support them to stabilize their lives, integrate well into the host society, unite and develop, as well as organize many activities to gather them to participate and turn towards their homeland.
