On the afternoon of February 18, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Minister of Information and Communications was approved by the National Assembly as Minister of Science and Technology. This ministry was established on the basis of merging the old Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Information and Communications.

At the 9th extraordinary session, on the morning of February 18, the National Assembly passed a Resolution on the organizational structure of the Government for the 15th National Assembly term and a Resolution on the structure of the number of Government members for the 15th National Assembly term.

On the same afternoon, the National Assembly voted to pass the Resolution approving the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint a Minister for the 2021-2026 term. Among the 4 Ministers approved for appointment for the 2021 - 2026 term is the Minister of Science and Technology.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Information and Communications was appointed as Minister of Science and Technology.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Science and Technology was established on the basis of merging the (old) Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Information and Communications, basically inheriting the functions and tasks assigned to these two ministries; transferring the functions, tasks, and organization of the press and publishing management apparatus from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Summary of the working process:

7.79 - 7.1986: Soldier, later a student at U-li-a-nop Information School (former Soviet Union).

8.1986 - 4.1997: Lieutenant, Senior Lieutenant, Captain and Major. Technical assistant of the Institute of Information Technology, then the Information Equipment Electronics Company, Information and Communications Corps.

5. 1997 - 3.2005: Major, Lieutenant Colonel, then Lieutenant Colonel, Deputy Head of the Investment Department, then Deputy Director of the Military Electronics and Telecommunications Company, Information and Communications Corps; Party Committee member of the Company since May 1998.

4. 2005 - 1.2014: Lieutenant Colonel, Colonel, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, Deputy General Director of the Military Telecommunications Corporation, later the Military Telecommunications Group, Ministry of National Defense; promoted to the rank of Major General in 2012.

2.2014 - 5.2018: Major General, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, General Director of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group. At the 12th National Congress of the Party, he was elected to the Central Executive Committee of the Party. joined the Central Military Commission for the 2015-2020 term.

6.2018 - 7.2018: Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Major General, Chairman and General Director of the Military Industry - Telecommunications Group.

From August 2018 to present: Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Acting Minister, then Minister of Information and Communications, and Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department. At the 13th National Congress of the Party, he was re-elected to the Central Party Executive Committee.

January 24, 2025: The Politburo appoints to join the Government Party Executive Committee for the 2020 - 2025 term.

February 18, 2025: The National Assembly approved the Prime Minister's proposal to appoint Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung as Minister of Science and Technology.
