Within the framework of the state visit to the Republic of Angola, on the morning of August 7, Politburo member and President Luong Cuong and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, offered flowers to the statue of Uncle Ho in the grounds of the Vietnamese Embassy in Angola, laid wreaths at the Memorial Stele on Ho Chi Minh Avenue and the Unknown Soldier Memorial in Luanda.
At the Vietnamese Embassy in Angola, President Luong Cuong and his wife, along with the Vietnamese delegation, respectfully offered fresh flowers in front of the statue of Uncle Ho.
This is a semi- body statue of President Ho Chi Minh that was presented to the Vietnamese Embassy in Angola by General Secretary To Lam while he was still the Minister of Public Security.
The project was inaugurated in July 2023 and is a place where Vietnamese people in Angola and domestic delegations every time they set foot in the neighboring country come to commemorate the great President Ho Chi Minh.
Then, the President and his wife, along with the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, laid wreaths at the Memorial Stele on Ho Chi Minh Avenue in the capital Luanda. Accompanying the President at the wreath- laying ceremony for Angola was Foreign Minister Tete Antonio.
The first President of the independent country of Angola, Antonio Agostinho Neto, always admired and respected the Vietnamese people and President Ho Chi Minh, the national liberation hero and outstanding leader of the Vietnamese people.
Originating from this special sentiment, President Neto decided to name an important Avenue right in the center of the capital Luanda after President Ho Chi Minh.
This is one of the most beautiful roads in the capital Angola with a length of about 3.4km connecting to the October Revolution Road towards Luanda Airport. Many important agencies of Angola such as the MPLA Party, a number of ministries, branches, national broadcasters... are headquartered on the road named after Uncle Ho. The end point of the Boulevard is where you can see the whole Luanda Bay - one of the most beautiful coastal areas in Africa.
This festival has become a symbol of the solidarity and friendship between the two peoples of Angola and Vietnam, which future generations of the two countries need to take care of and preserve.
President Luong Cuong and the delegation also laid wreaths at the Unknown Soldier Memorial in Luanda. Also attending were Minister of National Defense of Angola Joao Ernesto dos Santos, Governor Luanda Luis Manuel da Fonseca, and a number of officials of the Ministry of National Defense and the city of Luanda.
Inaugurated in September 2017, this project is made up of 16 pieces, symbolizing the solidarity of soldiers for a common goal. Each of the 16 metal blocks makes up this massive structure weighing 8.8 tons.
One wall of the Memorial depicts the national anthem of Angola, while another wall reads: "To those who sacrificed their lives in the fight, while on duty for the greatest dream, which is to have a homeland, to be a part of a free and independent nation".
