On the afternoon of November 20, at the Presidential Palace, President Luong Cuong received Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly Alen Simonyan as part of his official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, reported VNA.
President Luong Cuong expressed his belief that the visit is an important milestone, contributing to promoting bilateral relations between the two legislative bodies and between the two countries in the new period.
National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan affirmed that Armenia always considers Vietnam an important partner in the region, and affirmed that this visit is an opportunity to continue discussions with the Vietnamese side to seek measures to promote deeper cooperation in many fields.
Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan also affirmed that Vietnam and Armenia always support and assist each other at international forums; hoping that the two countries will establish new cooperation mechanisms, especially in economics, trade and investment on the basis of being members of international trade organizations.
The President affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Armenia, which has been nurtured and built by many generations of leaders and people of the two countries; and always remembers and appreciates the wholehearted support and assistance that the Armenian people have given Vietnam during the years of fighting for national independence in the past, as well as in the cause of national construction and development today.
Appreciating the results of the talks between Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Tran Thanh Man and Chairman of the Armenian National Assembly, the President hoped that the legislative bodies of the two countries would continue to coordinate to create a legal corridor, facilitating efforts to promote cooperation between the two countries, meeting the common interests of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
The President said that in addition to the political relationship between the two countries being the main stream, economic, trade and investment cooperation in recent years has had positive developments, in which in the first months of 2024, two-way trade reached more than 400 million USD, but is still modest compared to the potential and strengths of the two countries.
To promote bilateral cooperation to continue to develop more substantially and effectively, the President suggested that the two countries increase contacts and delegation exchanges at all levels and through various channels to consolidate political trust; promote economic, trade and investment cooperation; promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges to enhance mutual understanding between the people of the two countries, promote tourism and local connections; as well as resume educational and training cooperation and expand new areas of cooperation where the two sides can complement and support each other; coordinate and support each other at international organizations and multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations and the International Organization of La Francophonie.
On this occasion, the President respectfully asked the Chairman of the National Assembly to convey an invitation to President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time.
