According to VNA, on the morning of November 2, President of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba (Chairman of the National Assembly) Esteban Lazo Hernandez led a delegation of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba to Hanoi, starting a working visit to Vietnam from November 2-3, at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
Welcoming the President of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba and the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were: Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly Vu Hai Ha, Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen.
Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez was born on February 26, 1944, in Jovellanos district, Matanzas province, Republic of Cuba.
In 1961, he joined the Cuban Revolutionary Militia and was a member of the Revolutionary Defense Committee (CDR) in 1962. In 1963, he joined the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC); he was a member of the Accounting Committee (CPC) in the City of Jovellanos, in charge of education in 1964.
In 1968 he was Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee in San Pedro de Mayabon (Los Arabos); he was Chief of the Organizing Committee of the Regional Bureau in Colon in 1969.
In 1971, Mr. Esteban Lazo Hernandez was Head of the Organizing Committee in the province of Mantanzas. In 1979, he was provincial delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture in Mantanzas, member of the Provincial Party Committee Office.
From 1980-1981, he was Deputy Secretary and Secretary of the Mantanzas Provincial Party Committee, and a National Assembly Delegate.
From 1986 to 1994, he was Secretary of the Santiago de Cuba Provincial Party Committee; and Vice President of the Council of State from 1992 to 2013.
He was Secretary of the Havana City Party Committee from 1994 to 2013. From 2003 to present, he has been a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba.
On February 24, 2013, he was elected Chairman of the National Assembly at the 8th National Assembly. On April 18, 2018, he continued to hold the position of Chairman of the National Assembly for the second term at the 9th National Assembly.
From April 19, 2023 to present, he continues to hold the position of President of the 10th Cuban National Assembly.
The working visit to Vietnam by President of the National Assembly of the People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez and his delegation is of great significance, continuing to consolidate and promote cooperation between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the National Assembly of Cuba, contributing to deepening the special solidarity and brotherly relations between Vietnam and Cuba.
