TTXVN reported that on August 6, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn received Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Vietnam Gennady Bezdetko.
Through the Ambassador, National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn expressed sincere gratitude to the leaders of the Russian Federation for their letters and condolences on the passing of General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng; and also sent the Vice Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation to attend the funeral of General Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng, demonstrating the special and deep feelings of the Russian Federation towards Vietnam.
National Assembly Chairman also acknowledged the Ambassador's efforts in organizing the successful state visit to Vietnam of President Vladimir Putin in June 2024; expressed his impression of the successful outcome of this visit.
National Assembly Chairman emphasized that developing relations with the Russian Federation is a consistent policy, a strategic choice, and the top priority in Vietnam's foreign policy to implement the country's independent, self-reliant, multi-lateral, and multi-form foreign policy.
The Vietnamese people always remember the sincere and meaningful assistance of the Russian people in the country's struggle for national liberation as well as in the current construction and development of the country.
National Assembly Chairman evaluated that in recent times, the Vietnam-Russia Strategic Comprehensive Partnership has been continuously consolidated and developed well. The two sides have regularly exchanged delegations at all levels and high levels.
According to National Assembly Chairman, there is still a lot of potential and room for cooperation between the two countries. In 2023, bilateral trade between Vietnam and the Russian Federation was approximately $3.6 billion; in the first six months of 2024, it reached approximately $2.34 billion (up 45.4% from the same period in 2023). National Assembly Chairman proposed promoting economic and trade cooperation in line with the relationship between the two countries.
National Assembly Chairman also proposed regular exchange of delegations at all levels and high levels; strengthening parliamentary cooperation and friendship groups between the two countries to exchange experiences in legislation, supervision, and decision-making on important issues.
Russian Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko agreed with the evaluation of National Assembly Chairman Trần Thanh Mẫn on the development of relations between the two countries; highly appreciated the close cooperation and mutual support between the National Assembly of Vietnam and the State Duma of the Russian Federation; and confirmed that parliamentary cooperation is an important channel in the overall Vietnam-Russia relations.
Russian Ambassador Gennady Bezdetko confirmed that he will continue to make efforts to deepen the Vietnam-Russia Strategic Comprehensive Partnership; and hopes to promote bilateral cooperation in various fields, including economy-trade, national defense-security, education-training, science-technology, tourism, and people-to-people exchange.
