On April 26, in Can Tho City, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, former Central leaders in Can Tho and leaders of Can Tho City, Hau Giang Province through the ages, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
Reporting to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and delegates at the meeting, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Truong Canh Tuyen said that since the beginning of this year, the City People's Committee has focused on directing sectors and levels to synchronously deploy key tasks and solutions to implement the socio-economic development plan.
Accordingly, the city's economic growth rate reached 7.15%, which is the highest increase compared to the same period in the past 3 years; The scale of the economy continues to be expanded, the gross product in the city in 2024 reached over 133 trillion dong; domestic revenue reached more than 12 trillion dong; The average income per capita reached VND 105 million, up compared to 2023.
Speaking at the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his emotion when meeting with Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, former leaders of the Central Government and leaders of Can Tho City and Hau Giang Province through the periods in the sacred atmosphere of the historic April months; and conveyed the greetings and wishes for good health of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the Mothers and comrades.
Pleased to announce the country's outstanding achievements after 50 years of liberating the South, unifying the country, and nearly 40 years of implementing the renovation process, the National Assembly Chairman said that the scale of the economy reached 476.3 billion USD, average income per capita was about 4,700 USD; budget revenue reached about 2 million billion VND. Vietnam currently has diplomatic relations with about 200 countries; ranking 32nd among developed economies.
The National Assembly Chairman emphasized that the whole country is currently focusing on implementing two 100-year goals: by 2030, becoming a modern industrialized country with a high average income; by 2045, our country will become a developed country with a high income.
Can Tho City has also registered with the Government to strive for growth in 2025 of 8 - 10%, striving to achieve an average income higher than the national average.
The Chairman of the National Assembly stated that, currently, the whole country is focusing on implementing the streamlined revolution of the organizational structure of the political system, merging the provincial level ... According to the policy of the Central Government, in the coming time, Can Tho will merge with Hau Giang and Soc Trang. This is a potential for the city directly under the Central Government in the Mekong Delta (Mekong Delta) to grow stronger in the near future.
The Chairman of the National Assembly wants the former central leaders, Vietnamese heroic mothers, leaders of Can Tho City, Hau Giang province through periods to continue to pay attention, contribute many enthusiastic opinions to the development of the new Can Tho City and the implementation of the major guidelines and revolutions that the Party, the State and the political system are drastically deploying.
The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that the Central Government always pays attention and creates favorable conditions for the Mekong Delta in general and Can Tho in particular to develop further.
