Continuing the working trip to Can Tho City, on the morning of February 1st, Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman, Chairman of the National Election Council Tran Thanh Man and the delegation supervising and inspecting the election of National Assembly deputies of the 16th term and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term of the National Election Council and the National Assembly Standing Committee worked with the Can Tho City Election Committee.

At the working session, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the Supervisory and Inspection Delegation listened to the report on the results of deploying and implementing election work of the Can Tho City Election Commission.
Speaking at the working session, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, on behalf of Party and State leaders, congratulated and praised Can Tho's outstanding achievements in socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security, and building the political system in 2025. Through this, Can Tho has promoted its central role of the Mekong Delta, contributing to the whole country completing 15/15 socio-economic targets, contributing to the overall growth rate of the country reaching 8.02%.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated the preparation of Can Tho City, especially the strict compliance with Directive 46 of the Politburo and the application of information technology in leading and directing elections.
The National Assembly Chairwoman requested that the City pay special attention to the second and third consultations to select a list of truly typical and worthy candidates for the people to choose and elect to participate in the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels.
The timing of this consultation conference will take place during the Lunar New Year, therefore, the National Assembly Chairwoman requested that the Fatherland Front at all levels can proactively arrange appropriate time, which can be implemented early before the Lunar New Year, ensuring compliance with regulations.

The National Assembly Chairwoman highly appreciated Can Tho City's clear assignment and delegation of tasks in leading and directing election work; and at the same time requested the City to continue to strictly implement Directive 46 of the Politburo, related conclusions and guiding documents of the National Election Council.
From now until the election day, leaders at all levels need to directly go to the grassroots level, associated with each unit and election team to monitor, direct and take specific responsibility.
In the context of strong digital transformation and artificial intelligence application, the National Assembly Chairwoman wished Can Tho City, in its role as a centrally-run city, to take the lead in digital transformation and artificial intelligence application, especially in election work.
Training work needs to be deployed methodically, practically, "holding hands and guiding", especially for young and new cadres. The assignment must be clear about people, clear about work, clear about responsibilities, and regularly update and report on the situation.

The National Assembly Chairwoman emphasized to strengthen propaganda before, during and after the election; strengthen the application of artificial intelligence in election propaganda, especially in bilingual translation to serve propaganda work for ethnic minorities Khmer, Cham, Hoa... Can Tho continues to pay attention to ensuring political security, social order and safety in the area, not being subjective; at the same time, it is necessary to develop plans to promptly handle arising situations such as fires, explosions, epidemics...
The National Assembly Chairwoman requested the City to mobilize the entire political system to participate in election work, identifying this as a central task in the first quarter of 2026.
According to the report of the Can Tho City Election Commission, after the first consultation, the total number of NA deputies elected in Can Tho City is 18 deputies (of which, the number of deputies introduced by the Central Government is 8 deputies; the number of deputies introduced by localities is 10 deputies).
The total number of City People's Council deputies elected according to regulations is 85 deputies. The total number of people recommended for candidacy from agencies, organizations, and units is 150 people. The total number of Commune-level People's Council deputies allocated for candidacy is: 4,356 people out of the total number of deputies expected to be elected, which is 2,212 deputies.
As of 5:00 PM on January 22, 2026, the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has received 25 dossiers introducing candidates for NA deputies from 16 agencies, organizations, and units out of a total of 18 elected deputies, a rate of 1.38 times higher than the number of deputies elected in the locality (excluding the number of self-nominated candidates); received dossiers of 150 people introducing candidates for Can Tho City People's Council deputies from 70 agencies, organizations, and units out of a total of 85 elected deputies, a rate of 1.38 times higher than the number of elected deputies (excluding the number of self-nominated candidates).
