Reporting to the National Assembly Chairwoman, President of the Vietnamese Student Association in Italy Vu Thi Bich Diep said that currently, the Vietnamese student community in Italy has about 1,000-1,200 international students studying in many different fields such as engineering - technology, architecture - design - art, economics - management, law - international relations and natural sciences.
In recent years, the trend of choosing majors is clearly shifting to fields such as artificial intelligence, data, information technology and design, while industries related to sustainable development and green energy are also increasing but do not account for a large proportion. Students mainly focus on master's degrees (about 60%), followed by university (30%) and doctoral programs, postgraduate programs or short-term vocational training courses (10%)...
The President of the Vietnamese Student Association in Italy proposed that functional agencies strengthen support mechanisms for Vietnamese citizens abroad in the process of completing legal and residence procedures; promote connection mechanisms between Vietnamese students abroad and domestic and international labor markets.
The Vietnamese Student Association in Italy also proposed to continue to improve policies to attract and promote high-quality human resources returning to Vietnam; promote the role of the Vietnamese student community in Italy as a network connecting and supporting on the spot.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man pointed out that outstanding students and international students today are going in the spirit of the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress.
Emphasizing the important role of intellectuals and students, the National Assembly Chairwoman clearly stated that to achieve two-digit growth, macroeconomic stability, and inflation control, it is necessary to attach importance to the development of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation. To develop these fields, the National Assembly Chairwoman agreed that it is necessary to continue to improve institutions.
According to the National Assembly Chairwoman, the Party and State of Vietnam have issued many policies to attract Vietnamese experts and intellectuals abroad to contribute to the country's development. Typical are Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, the Law on Science, Technology and Innovation in 2025, the revised Law on Nationality in 2025, Resolution 193/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly on piloting a number of special mechanisms and policies to create breakthroughs in science, technology and innovation... in which many special mechanisms are introduced, improving the process of implementing scientific research activities to attract and value Vietnamese experts and scientists abroad to return to work abroad. Some localities have high preferential treatment mechanisms for the team of masters and doctors.
The National Assembly Chairwoman hopes that students, regardless of major, will proactively access science and technology, innovate and create, so that when they return, they can make practical contributions to their homeland and country, contributing to making Vietnam a high-middle-income country by 2030 and high-income by 2045.
