The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that on the afternoon of August 7, at the National Assembly Headquarters, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man received a delegation of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Alliance led by Ms. Obuchi Yuko - Member of the Parliament, President of the Alliance - along with Parliamentarians representing the political parties in the Alliance during a visit to Vietnam from August 6-9, 2025.
Congratulating Ms. Obuchi on her recent election as President of the Japan-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians' Union, the National Assembly Chairman welcomed her first visit to Vietnam in her new position; expressed confidence that she will continue the affection of the previous leaders of the Union, including her father, the late Prime Minister Obuchi Keizo, to continue to support and contribute to the development of Vietnam-Japan relations.
Sharing his impressions of Vietnam's rapid economic development and youthful vitality, Chairman Obuchi affirmed his confidence in the success of Vietnam's current renovation as well as Vietnam's stronger development in the coming time.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that, on the basis of the well-developed Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Vietnam and Japan need to continue to strengthen extensive, effective and substantive cooperation, contributing to promoting the stronger and more comprehensive development of the relationship between the two countries in the coming time.
The National Assembly Chairman emphasized the effective, rich and substantive cooperation between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Japanese Parliament as well as the close exchanges and cooperation between the two Friendship Parliamentary Groups of the two countries in recent times, which is a bright spot in the relationship between the two countries, contributing to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Japan.

The National Assembly Chairman suggested that Ms. Obuchi continue to pay attention to and promote the Japanese government to accompany Vietnam in implementing development goals, industrialization and modernization, promoting new pillars of science and technology, through research cooperation, training of high-quality human resources, investment in high technology in the fields of agriculture, energy transition, innovation, training of strategic-level cadres and in the fields of green transformation, digital transformation, semiconductors, etc.; promote exchanges between parliamentarians, especially between the two groups of friends, female parliamentarians and young parliamentarians; support each other in regional and international issues of mutual concern as well as in cooperation mechanisms such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), ASEAN ASEAN General Assembly (AIPA) ...
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also highly appreciated the rich and meaningful activities of the leadership of the Parliamentary Assembly Delegation during this visit to Vietnam, including attending an investment promotion event in Can Tho city; believing that this event will open up many new cooperation opportunities between the Mekong Delta provinces and Japanese localities.
At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent his congratulations to President of the House of Representatives of Japan Sekiguchi Masakazu on the occasion of his reappointment and conveyed an early invitation to visit Vietnam to Speaker of the House of Representatives Nukaga and President of the House of Representatives Sekiguchi.
