National Assembly Chairman proposes United Nations facilitate Vietnamese citizens to work

The National Assembly Chairman suggested that General Director Tatiana Valovaya create favorable conditions for Vietnamese officials and citizens to work at United Nations agencies.

On July 29, local time, at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, on the occasion of attending the 6th World Council Presidents' Conference, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a meeting with Director General of the United Nations Office in Geneva Tatiana Valovaya.

At the meeting, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man highly appreciated the role of the General Director and the important contributions of the United Nations Office to maintaining international peace and security, promoting and ensuring human rights, eliminating hunger and reducing poverty and implementing the Sustainable Development Goals globally.

Emphasizing the multilateral, diversified foreign policy, proactively and actively contributing to peace, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development, the National Assembly Chairman affirmed that Vietnam always strongly supports multilateralism and will continue to participate and contribute more actively to the activities of the United Nations.

The National Assembly Chairman said that Vietnam is re-nominating to be a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term. If elected, Vietnam will have many activities and initiatives to promote the role of this agency in the current volatile and challenging international context.

On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman thanked the General Director and United Nations agencies for their cooperation and active support in the cause of national construction and development; shared Vietnam's achievements in gender equality, specifically the participation of women in the National Assembly and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Welcoming the efforts to reform the United Nations system in recent times, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that Vietnam will continue to cooperate closely and make many contributions to improve the operational efficiency and adaptability of the world's largest international organization; and requested General Director Tatiana Valovaya to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese officials and citizens to work at United Nations agencies.

Director General Tatiana Valovaya thanked Vietnam for enthusiastically supporting the United Nations' common activities in Geneva, including taking the lead in responding to the initiative of exhibiting 17 outstanding women in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.

She highly appreciated the role and active activities of the Ambassador of the Head of the Delegation and the Vietnamese Delegation in Geneva at United Nations organizations as well as in general work such as participating in the Advisory Council for the Restoration of Historical Works at the United Nations Headquarters.

The two sides agreed to continue promoting Vietnam - United Nations cooperation in general and in Geneva activities in particular.
