According to VNA, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his joy at meeting Ambassador Ito Naoki again in Can Tho City and thanked the Ambassador for coordinating the successful organization of the National Assembly Chairman's visit to Japan from December 3-7, 2024.
Through the Ambassador, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man sent his regards and best wishes to the King, Queen, Prime Minister of Japan, President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Japan.
The National Assembly Chairman believes that with the Ambassador's prestige, Japanese businesses and investors will come to invest in the Mekong Delta, especially the Aeon Mall supermarket project that is about to start construction in Can Tho.
Ambassador Ito Naoki sincerely thanked National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man for taking the time to receive him. The Ambassador also informed that in the past two days, the Ambassador's delegation, including representatives of the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and several corporations, had a survey trip to Can Tho City, worked with city leaders and visited Can Tho University.
Through the meetings, the Japanese Ambassador highly appreciated the development potential of Can Tho City in the fields of economy, tourism, infrastructure construction and educational cooperation.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Ambassador Ito Naoki were pleased to note that since upgrading the relationship to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the Vietnam-Japan relationship has continued to develop substantially and comprehensively in all areas; political trust has continued to be consolidated, and high-level and all-level exchanges have been close.
Japan is currently the number 1 ODA partner and the 4th largest trading partner of Vietnam with bilateral trade turnover in 2024 reaching over 46 billion USD, accounting for 6% of Vietnam's total import-export turnover with the world; at the same time, it is the 4th largest export market and the 3rd largest import market of Vietnam. The two countries are also actively expanding cooperation into new areas such as green transformation and digital transformation.
The National Assembly Chairman said that Vietnamese leaders wish to cooperate closely with Japan to continue deepening bilateral relations within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, developing bilateral cooperation more deeply and substantially, contributing to promoting the development of each country in the new period.
According to Ambassador Ito Naoki, 2026 is the 80th anniversary of the founding of Can Tho University. On this occasion, Japan wishes to organize a workshop with countries such as the United States, Australia, etc. on the field of climate change response in Can Tho.
The Ambassador hopes that National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man will pay attention to promoting and perfecting legal policies and reforming administrative procedures to create more favorable conditions for Japanese enterprises to invest in Vietnam.
On this occasion, Japanese Ambassador Ito Naoki delivered New Year greetings from Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru and the Speaker and Vice Speaker of the Japanese House of Representatives to National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
