On April 7, in Hanoi, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Minister of National Defense - chaired a conference to report on the results of task implementation in the past time and the direction of work until the end of 2026 of the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department (PKO).
Reporting at the conference, Major General Pham Manh Thang - Director of the Vietnam PKO Department said that from May 2014 to now, the Ministry of National Defense has sent over 1,300 turns of officers and professional soldiers to participate in UN PKO activities in both individual and unit forms. The Army forces sent out all completed their tasks well, maintained discipline, and were highly appreciated.
Regarding the form of personnel deployment officers, there are 149 turns of Army officers participating in performing tasks at 3 UN PKO missions (UNMISS, MINUSCA, UNISFA), the United Nations Headquarters in the US, the United Nations Liaison Office in Belgium and the European Union Training Mission.
Regarding the form of unit deployment, 2 unit formations have been deployed, including 7 platoons of Level 2 Field Hospital (63 comrades) rotating annually to the UNMISS mission (South Sudan) from 2018; 4 platoons of the Engineering Team (184 comrades) rotating annually to the UNISFA mission (Abyei region) from 2022.
In the field of international cooperation, the Vietnam PKO Department has advised on signing 11 international cooperation agreements, maintaining effective cooperation with the United Nations, the European Union and partners; receiving international support worth more than 20 million USD to serve training and capacity building.
Speaking at the conference, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang praised the Vietnam PKO Department and agencies and units for doing a good job of preparing and deploying Vietnamese forces to perform UN PKO missions in the past time.
Regarding tasks for the coming time, in the immediate future from now until the end of 2026, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang requested the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department to continue to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to well implement the identified tasks, in which focusing on training and preparation in all aspects for Engineering Team No. 5 and Level 2 Field Hospital No. 8 to be ready to rotate replacements according to plan, and organize a thoughtful send-off ceremony.
Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Truong Thang noted that it is necessary to strictly manage and thoroughly grasp the forces at the delegations to strictly comply with military discipline and UN regulations, ensuring absolute safety.
The Vietnam PKO Department coordinates with agencies and units throughout the army to do a good job of preparing human resources to participate in UN PKO activities; focusing on selecting high-quality personnel, meeting the criteria to successfully apply for senior positions at the mission and work at the United Nations Headquarters.
Relevant agencies and units proactively prepare human resources to meet the standards for participating in GGHB activities; proactively organize professional and specialized training, ready to be mobilized to the Vietnam GGHB Department to deploy participation when there is a decision from superiors; coordinate to implement the military rear policy, ensuring that forces on duty are always assured in their work and complete assigned tasks well.
