On September 12, under the chairmanship of Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the National Assembly Standing Committee (NASC) opened its 37th session.
In his opening speech, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man stated that the session took place in conditions where the northern mountainous provinces were still experiencing heavy rain, floods, landslides, and damage.
With a spirit of active and urgent work, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly will meet for 5.5 days and divide into 2 sessions (session 1: September 12 and morning of September 13; session 2: from September 23 to 26), with a large volume of content, including 23 contents.
Regarding legislative work, the National Assembly Chairman emphasized that this is a key task, taking up most of the time of this session. The National Assembly Standing Committee will review and comment on 11 draft laws submitted to the National Assembly at the 8th session.
At the same time, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly considered the Ordinance on Management and Protection of the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Relic Site.
The National Assembly Chairman requested the Standing Committee of the Law Committee to urgently examine proposals for drafting laws and resolutions, study them carefully, and report to the National Assembly Standing Committee for consideration and addition to the agenda of the 37th Session in the spirit of ensuring quality and meeting the conditions for approval.
Regarding supervision work, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly will give opinions on contents related to two supervision topics; reports on judicial work, annual audits and a number of other important reports.
Regarding some other tasks to be considered at this session, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly will summarize the 8th extraordinary session and give opinions on the preparation for the 8th session of the 15th National Assembly.
At the same time, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly considered two draft joint resolutions between the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, the Government, and the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front detailing the organization of meetings with voters of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels.
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly also reviewed and approved the Prime Minister's proposal on the appointment of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and reviewed the August 2024 People's Aspirations Work Report as usual.
In addition, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly reviewed and commented on a number of written reports so that the agencies could finalize and send the documents to National Assembly deputies soon.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also said that at this session, the National Assembly Standing Committee agreed to shorten the time for presenting reports and proposals.
"Agencies are requested to report briefly and comply with the allowed time; the Standing Committee of the National Assembly focuses on discussing important issues, with different opinions and content requiring comments" - the National Assembly Chairman requested.
Noting that the workload of the 8th session is very large, with many important contents, the National Assembly Chairman stated that it is the peak time, and that we can work day and night to properly and accurately review and ensure the quality of reports and draft laws.
The National Assembly Chairman also requested relevant agencies to ensure the composition of the meeting participants, and the National Assembly Standing Committees to arrange their work, focus, and devote maximum time to the meeting to ensure the highest quality.
