Vietnam's First Heritage City
On the evening of December 29, at Ngo Mon Square (Hue Citadel), Thua Thien Hue province held a ceremony to announce the National Assembly's Resolution on the establishment of Hue City under the Central Government and the National Assembly Standing Committee's Resolution on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Hue City.
On the morning of November 30, 2024, at the 8th Session, the National Assembly passed the Resolution on the establishment of Hue City under the Central Government with 458/461 delegates voting in favor. Hue City was established on the basis of the entire natural area of 4,947.11 km² and population of 1,236,393 people of Thua Thien Hue province. This Resolution takes effect from January 1, 2025.
Hue is a land of culture, with a rich history, unique culture and heroic revolutionary tradition. Through many ups and downs, Hue still maintains its strong vitality and is always the pride of the people of the whole country.
Becoming a centrally-governed city, Hue has entered a new phase with the position of the first cultural heritage city of Vietnam. This is an important foundation for Hue to develop into a smart heritage city, rich in identity, creating a breakthrough for rapid and sustainable development, while affirming its role as the center of the region and the whole country in culture, tourism, specialized healthcare, education - training, and science - technology.
With the solidarity and determination of the entire Party, government and people, Hue City will certainly successfully achieve the set goals, bringing the city to strong and sustainable development in the future.
Organize the apparatus to be lean and efficient
Speaking at the ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his joy at attending the announcement ceremony of the National Assembly's Resolution on the establishment of Hue City under the Central Government and the Resolution of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the arrangement of district and commune-level administrative units of Hue City in the 2023-2025 period.
National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man outlined the following key tasks: Hue City Party Committee and authorities need to develop a specific, clear and feasible plan to resolve difficulties and challenges when becoming a centrally-governed city.
Key contents include: Changing the state management organization model from provincial level to centrally-run city level with a higher level of urbanization; organizing a unified, specialized and professional government apparatus for effective operation.
In particular, it is necessary to focus on tasks such as urban management, construction order, land management and ensuring political security and social order and safety.
Focus on prioritizing economic restructuring, associated with in-depth growth model innovation. Develop advantageous service industries; tourism based on promoting heritage and cultural values; industry towards increasing added value, being environmentally friendly; high-tech agriculture, sustainable and adapting to climate change.
At the same time, promote administrative reform, improve the investment and business environment associated with digital government and smart urban services.
Special attention is paid to developing science and technology towards green growth, meeting the goals of the national strategy on environmental protection and using clean technology. Regular attention is paid to socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas, mountainous areas and areas affected by natural disasters and climate change.
Strengthening consensus, solidarity and unity of people and businesses. Ensuring that people and businesses enjoy the fruits of innovation, while strengthening inspection and supervision to prevent corruption, waste and negative acts. Focusing on effectively implementing Resolution 18 of the 12th Party Central Committee on streamlining and streamlining the apparatus.
Propose that the Government and central ministries, departments and agencies support Hue City in perfecting institutions, organizing law enforcement and resolving difficulties and problems. At the same time, promote cooperation with other localities to create stronger development momentum.
