Delegates feel heartbroken when seeing students showing off their skills and being struggled by exam pressure

National Assembly deputies felt heartbroken when talking about the pressure of taking the exam for students who are only 15 years old.

On the morning of December 4, continuing the 10th Session, the National Assembly discussed in the hall the work reports for the 2021-2026 term of the President and the Government.

Speaking in the hall, delegate Nguyen Thi Tuyet Nga (Quang Tri National Assembly Delegation) highly appreciated the important results of the past term.

Expressing her opinion on the field of education and training (ET), delegate Tuyet Nga said that the results achieved in this field demonstrate the efforts, seriousness, spirit of innovation and responsibility of the Government. The results also demonstrate the determination of the Minister and the Ministry of Education and Training.

However, the delegate said that it is necessary to clarify the outstanding achievements that previous terms have not achieved, as this term has made important strides in strategic thinking about education.

Specifically, the Government has advised the Central Executive Committee to issue Resolution 71 on breakthroughs and development of education and training, placing education in a strategic breakthrough position, directly linked to national competitiveness and the aspiration for national development.

The Government also submitted to the Central Government and the National Assembly to legalize the popularization of preschool education for children aged 3-5 years; tuition exemption policy.

These are humane policies, demonstrating great determination in ensuring learning and reducing the financial burden on millions of families.

However, according to this delegate, the Government's report has focused on 5 lines for limitations in education and training, the issues are still too general.

Expressing the great concern and also the wish of many voters sent to her, delegate Tuyet Nga said that it is a burden of exams due to the problem of traffic flow after junior high school that is still inadequate in perception, viewpoint and implementation.

"The traffic diversion is being misunderstood, misimplemented in practice. Those who failed the high school entrance exam will have to study a trade, traffic flow is associated with failure, not choice. The forced traffic diversion method, instead, those who have clear schooling and career orientation should choose the right path" the delegate stated.

This delegate added that the 10th grade entrance exam is becoming a "shrinkling national exam", with heavy pressure. Meanwhile, high school is a level of general education, meaning that all students have the right to study.

The low rate of students entering high school in some localities shows that in the past, we have not ensured accurate access to general education for 12 years.

"Seeing the face of advertisements, struggling with the pressure of exams from children as young as 15 years old; reading the hopeless letters when they failed the high school entrance exam but felt heartbroken" delegate Tuyet Nga emphasized.

From the above issues, the delegate recommended that the Government should take immediate action, as a way to "free high school students".

Specifically, in the 2026-2027 school year, let's expand the door to high school, invest systematically in vocational secondary schools and respect the right of choice of learners.

It is necessary to improve the exam, adjust the admission method for grade 10 in the direction of reducing pressure, creating opportunities for students.

Flowing must be based on voluntary and capacity, not turning flowing into a barrier from grade 9. Build a traffic flow based on learning rights, ensure enough space for public high school students, so that students are not forced to participate in traffic flow.
