On July 13, at the Government Headquarters, Politburo Member, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung received US Ambassador to Vietnam Jennifer Wicks to pay a courtesy visit on the occasion of the Ambassador's start of her term in Vietnam.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung requested the Ambassador and Embassy to promote the role of a bridge, promote high-level delegation exchange activities, coordinate with ministries, branches, and localities of Vietnam to concretize substantive cooperation fields; frankly exchange views on issues that are still different in the spirit of mutual respect, and not let obstacles affect the overall development momentum of relations.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said that the two sides need to promote economic and trade cooperation in a harmonious, sustainable, and mutually beneficial direction; urgently remove obstacles and soon complete negotiations and sign reciprocal, fair and balanced trade agreements, creating a stable framework for businesses of the two countries to expand investment, production, and business.
The Prime Minister requested the two sides to promote cooperation in law enforcement, humanitarian relief, cyber security and transnational crime prevention and control.
The Prime Minister thanked the US for its support in overcoming the consequences of the war; requested the US to continue to support dioxin contamination treatment, bomb and mine clearance, support people with disabilities, share records, documents and DNA testing technology to serve the search and identification of martyrs' remains; affirmed Vietnam's commitment to searching for missing American soldiers in the war.
The Prime Minister also proposed to expand scientific and technological cooperation, innovation, human resource development, digital transformation, education and training, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
Ambassador Jennifer Wicks emphasized that economic and trade cooperation continues to be a top priority in her term. The Ambassador wished the two sides to maintain positive exchanges in order to soon reach a high-standard, reciprocal, fair and balanced trade agreement, thereby creating more economic and investment opportunities for both countries.
The Ambassador affirmed that he will closely coordinate to promote specific cooperation projects, handle existing issues in the spirit of building and expanding cooperation in areas where the two sides have strengths and mutual complementary needs.
Ambassador Jennifer Wicks said that the two sides still have much room for cooperation in maritime security and law enforcement, handling cross-border security challenges. The Ambassador pledged to continue to promote cooperation in overcoming the consequences of war, considering this an important humane foundation of the two countries' relations; wishing to expand programs to treat dioxin pollution, clear bombs and mines, support people with disabilities, search for and identify Vietnamese martyrs and repatriate the remains of US soldiers.
The Ambassador affirmed that he will work with relevant US agencies to maintain interest and resources for these programs, and strengthen coordination with Vietnamese ministries and sectors to effectively implement the contents agreed upon by the two sides.
Ambassador Jennifer Wicks also emphasized the importance of promoting people-to-people exchanges; wishing to expand cooperation in education, science - technology and innovation, support Vietnam's development goals according to Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo, strengthen the connection between US and Vietnamese universities, and accompany Vietnam in improving the quality of English teaching.
The Ambassador pledged to be an active partner throughout his term, contributing to further developing Vietnam-US relations in the coming time. The Ambassador highly appreciated Vietnam's role and wished the two sides to closely coordinate within the framework of the Gaza Peace Council.
