In Tuyen Quang, the economy mainly relies on the processing industry, which is forestry. In 2023, Tuyen Quang's total budget revenue will reach VND 3,287 billion, equal to 102.7% of the estimate assigned by the Central Government. GRDP growth rate reached 7.46%, leading the Northern mountainous region and ranking 18th nationwide.

In 2024, growth momentum will continue to be maintained with total budget revenue reaching VND 4,349 billion, an increase of more than 41% over the previous year. Tuyen Quang's economic structure has many changes, the trend of increasing the proportion of the service sector.
Tuyen Quang is currently focusing on developing the agricultural and forestry processing industry, exploiting the potential of sustainable forests, along with eco-tourism in Tan Trao, Na Hang - Lam Binh.
In Ha Giang, the locality focuses on exploiting tourism potential and specialty agricultural products. In 2023, the budget revenue will be more than VND 2,295 billion, with key economic sectors such as tourism, specialty agriculture and border trade.

In 2023 alone, Ha Giang welcomed over 3 million tourists, with revenue exceeding VND 7,000 billion. By 2024, Ha Giang's budget revenue will reach VND 2,475 billion, reaching 119.9% of the plan assigned by the Central Government. Import-export turnover in the province is estimated at 280.5 million USD.
In addition to tourism, Shan Tuyet tea is a symbol of agriculture, contributing significantly to the income of Ha Giang people. In 2023, the output of this type of tree will reach 91,600 tons, ranking third in the country.
In addition to economic development, Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang have many cultural and social similarities. These are all revolutionary bases, with a high proportion of ethnic minorities such as Mong, Tay, and Dao. The terrain is mainly hills and mountains interspersed with rivers and streams.

After the merger, the new Tuyen Quang province will have an area of 13,795.5 km2; the population will reach 1,865,270 people with 125 commune-level administrative units.
The merger of the two provinces received high consensus from local people. In Ha Giang, the process of collecting voters' opinions on the policy of merging the two provinces, with 169,950/179,130 votes in favor, reaching a rate of 94.88%.
In Tuyen Quang, 99.99% (177.255/177.257) of voters agreed with the draft Project to merge the two provinces, named Tuyen Quang, the current political and administrative center in Tuyen Quang.
