On July 11, in Hanoi, Central Party Committee member, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha attended and gave a speech at the 8th Party Congress of the Northern Food Corporation, term 2025-2030.
In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that each cadre and party member of Vinafood 1 needs to pay attention to and contribute to the process of re-evaluating the role of state-owned enterprises in the state economy.
In particular, it is noted that "whatever is according to the market, healthy competition; what is the task assigned by the State", ensuring fairness and equality between private enterprises and state-owned enterprises.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the current reality shows that many state-owned enterprises are "shouldering two roles": both competing in the global market and implementing the requirements for social security and macroeconomic stability.
This requires state-owned enterprises to improve their governance capacity, research and apply advanced governance models in the world, in order to adapt, be flexible, and meet the requirements of the globalization period.
In the agricultural sector alone, the Deputy Prime Minister said that it is necessary to strongly shift the mindset from production to developing an efficient, sustainable agricultural economy, integrating multiple values, associated with market demand.
In the context of increasingly severe impacts of climate change, fierce competitive pressure and increasingly high demand from the market, if the current agricultural production method is maintained, production quality and efficiency must be improved, creating outstanding added value. Otherwise, it is uncertain whether farmers will continue to maintain production activities.
In particular, the orientation for using agricultural land, especially rice land, is being reviewed to rearrange to serve production sectors with higher added value.
However, in parallel with this process, special attention should be paid to employment and livelihoods for people and farmers - this is a political task.
However, productivity and efficiency are new indicators to consider, because they are a prerequisite to ensure the sustainability of the agricultural economy.
In that orientation, businesses such as Vinafood 1 will continue to play a core role in the production, processing, consumption ecosystem and link the four houses: State, farmers, researchers, and businesses.
Therefore, this is a favorable opportunity for agricultural enterprises, including Vinafood 1, to develop to reach new heights if they proactively adjust their development strategies to suit development trends, market demand and consumer tastes.
In the coming time, the ecosystem of Vinafood 1 must be linked to resolutions on science and technology, innovation, attracting highly qualified human resources in science and technology, agricultural engineering, and governance, to conduct regular research and develop competitiveness.
Thereby, creating connections and influences, grasping the entire chain from research, transfer to production in the fields, linking with farmers.
"We need to support farmers in the steps they are lacking: Support science and technology, experience in production, consumption, processing, trade, brand building. That is both a stepping stone role and a way to affirm the brand and closed value chain of Vinafood 1 in the international market" - the Deputy Prime Minister discussed.
