Bringing Singapore - Vietnam relations to develop deeply and effectively in the new period

On the afternoon of August 25, within the framework of his official visit to Singapore and co-chairing the first Vietnam - Singapore Strategic Dialogue, Politburo Member, Permanent Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu met with Singaporean President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.

President Tharman Shanmugaratnam warmly welcomed Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu and the high-level delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam on an official visit to Singapore; highly appreciated the significance of the visit in the context that relations between the two countries are developing strongly after being upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The President expressed his belief that the visit, along with the success of the first Vietnam-Singapore Strategic Dialogue, will contribute to further consolidating political trust, strengthening understanding between the leaders of the two countries and creating more momentum to bring Singapore-Vietnam relations to develop deeply, practically, and effectively in the new period.

Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu expressed his pleasure at the first official visit to Singapore in his capacity as Standing Secretary of the Secretariat; respectfully conveyed to President Tharman Shanmugaratnam the greetings and best wishes of General Secretary, President To Lam and senior leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam. The Standing Secretary of the Secretariat congratulated Singapore on the important achievements it has made in the process of building and developing the country.

The Standing Committee of the Secretariat shared information on Vietnam's strategic policies in the new development era, and affirmed that Vietnam consistently values relations with Singapore. The establishment of the Strategic Partnership in 2013 and the upgrade to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025 are important milestones, reflecting the maturity of bilateral relations and the common vision of the leaders of the two countries on long-term cooperation.

Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu emphasized that the important task now is to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework, transforming the high level of political trust and agreements between the leaders of the two countries into specific programs, projects and cooperation results.

In the context that Vietnam and Singapore both place science and technology, innovation and human resource development in important positions in the development strategy, Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu proposed that the two countries create breakthroughs in new fields, emphasizing that cooperation in the new stage needs to gradually shift to fields with higher technology content, knowledge and added value, not only exploiting existing advantages but also jointly creating new growth drivers, thereby making practical contributions to the goals of rapid and sustainable development of each country.

President Tharman Shanmugaratnam highly appreciated Vietnam's socio-economic development achievements and increasing international position, shared a special impression of the talented and ambitious young Vietnamese generation; affirmed that Singapore values relations with Vietnam and wishes to effectively exploit the opportunities that the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework brings with Vietnam.

The President agreed that the two countries have many favorable conditions to promote each other's complementary strengths, the two sides need to promote science and technology connections, promote the new "Three Households of the Two Countryes" cooperation model, jointly participate in the process of joint research, joint development and joint production cooperation, and jointly attract investment in new generation industry and high technology.

Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu expressed his belief that, with a solid foundation of relations nurtured for more than half a century, a high level of political trust, increasingly close cohesion in interests and determination of the leaders of the two countries, the Vietnam - Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership will continue to develop strongly, substantively and sustainably, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, and at the same time making positive contributions to peace, stability and development of ASEAN and the region.
