On September 8, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Van Thang signed Decision No. 1742/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on supporting Lai Chau province to implement the project to build a concentrated resettlement area for households in Muong Than commune.
The Prime Minister decided to support 100 billion VND from the central budget reserve in 2026 for Lai Chau province to implement the project of building a concentrated resettlement area for households in Muong Than commune.
Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee is responsible for balancing and allocating local resources and other legal financial sources, along with the funding supported by the budget to implement the project, urgently relocate households in Muong Than commune out of dangerous areas, population relocation must be associated with ensuring sustainable production and livelihoods for people, absolutely not allowing people to return to landslide areas.
At the same time, manage and use the above-mentioned additional funds to ensure publicity, transparency, the right purpose of use, the right subjects, in accordance with the provisions of law on public investment, law on the state budget and other relevant legal regulations, without allowing losses or negativity.
At the same time, report the results of use to the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and relevant agencies for synthesis and reporting to the Prime Minister.
The Ministry of Finance and Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee are responsible for determining the additional funding, contents, reported data and proposals, recommendations, ensuring compliance with the provisions of law.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment shall preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Finance and relevant agencies to organize inspection, supervision, and guidance for Lai Chau province to organize project implementation; in case of detecting allocation and use of capital not in accordance with the scope, subjects, and provisions of law, report to competent authorities for recovery to the central budget and handle according to regulations.
The flash flood that occurred on July 17, 2026 in Muong Than commune has caused 17 casualties; hundreds of hectares of rice, crops, livestock, and other assets of people were swept away and buried.
Many facilities, traffic infrastructure, electricity and water were seriously damaged, about 200 households were affected, of which 24 households completely lost their houses, 20 households had houses damaged that could not be repaired, and hundreds of households located in dangerous areas had to be relocated.
