Towards new heights in Vietnam - Thailand relations

At the invitation of Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand Anutin Charnvirakul and his wife, General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife, along with the high-level Vietnamese delegation, will pay an official visit to Thailand from May 27-29.

Answering an interview about the official visit to Thailand of General Secretary and President To Lam and his wife, Member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Manh Cuong affirmed that the visit is of particular importance. This is the first visit to an ASEAN country by the General Secretary and President in his new position, and takes place in the context of the two countries' relations just being upgraded to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The visit first of all shows Vietnam's high appreciation for relations with Thailand as well as Southeast Asia. This is also an opportunity for senior leaders of the two countries to exchange in-depth views on major orientations to effectively implement the new cooperation framework, thereby creating more momentum for bilateral relations in the coming time.

An important expectation of the visit is to further consolidate and deepen political trust between the two countries. In terms of economy, the visit is expected to open up new developments in trade, investment, logistics and supply chain connectivity.

The two sides have great potential for cooperation in new fields such as digital transformation, green economy, circular economy, renewable energy, innovation and industrial transformation. These are all fields suitable for the development strategies of both countries in the new period" - Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong shared.

With a foundation of good friendship, high political trust and broad cooperation potential, this visit will create new momentum to bring Vietnam-Thailand relations to develop more strongly, towards new heights in the coming time.

In the interview, the Deputy Minister emphasized that the two countries are close neighbors, with many similar interests in maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region. Bilateral relations are constantly being strengthened and developed strongly and comprehensively, becoming one of the most dynamic and effective relations in ASEAN.

A particularly important milestone is the two countries' upgrade of relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2025. This reflects the very high level of political trust between the two countries, and at the same time demonstrates the common determination of the leaders of the two sides to bring bilateral relations to develop deeper, more substantive and effective in the new period" - the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs noted.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Manh Cuong pointed out that the highlight in Vietnam-Thailand relations is the increasingly solid consolidation of political trust. Economic cooperation continues to be a bright spot. National defense and security cooperation between the two countries is increasingly substantive and deepening. Cultural, educational, tourism and people-to-people exchanges are also developing strongly. On that basis, the two countries have favorable conditions to continue to deepening and substantialize the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam pointed out that, in terms of economy, Thailand is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in ASEAN, with two-way trade turnover in 2025 reaching more than 22 billion USD. The two economies are increasingly deeply linked in the regional supply chain. Thailand is also currently one of ASEAN's largest investors in Vietnam, with many large-scale projects in the fields of energy, processing industry, retail, logistics and infrastructure. The two countries have great potential for cooperation in supply chain development, transport connectivity, logistics and Mekong sub-region cooperation. With each country's important geostrategic position, the two sides have favorable conditions to become connecting centers of the continental Southeast Asian region.
