On February 21, Politburo Member, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung answered press interviews about the significance and results of General Secretary To Lam's participation in the Opening Meeting of the Peace Council on the Gaza Strip.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung pointed out that the working trip of General Secretary To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation to attend the Opening Meeting of the Peace Council on the Gaza Strip is the first major multilateral and international foreign affairs activity of our Party and State at a high level after the 14th National Party Congress.
This very important foreign affairs activity is a step in implementing the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, peace, friendship, cooperation and development and the foreign policy of the 14th National Party Congress.
True to the spirit of General Secretary To Lam's most recent article "Promoting comprehensive foreign affairs at a new height", the new height in the new stage is that through this important multilateral foreign affairs activity, we have shown goodwill and efforts to contribute to promoting peace in the Middle East and ensuring the basic national rights of the Palestinian people, including the right to establish a Palestinian state in the Middle East. This trip also contributes to promoting Vietnam's relations with the host country and international partners, including Middle Eastern countries" - Minister Le Hoai Trung emphasized.
Minister Le Hoai Trung said that on the occasion of attending the meeting, General Secretary To Lam exchanged views on Vietnam's views on the peace process in the Middle East and on the Palestinian issue; affirming the views and ideology of the Vietnamese nation, a nation that has experienced many sacrifices and losses of war, a nation that always strives for peace.
Therefore, the international and local press highly appreciated Vietnam and General Secretary To Lam as founding members of the Council for Peace in the Gaza Strip and General Secretary To Lam leading the high-level delegation of the Party and State of Vietnam to attend this meeting.
Public opinion assesses that Vietnam's participation shows Vietnam's foreign policy as a desire to contribute to world peace and development as well as international recognition and respect for Vietnam's position and Vietnam's ability to contribute.
In these exchanges, the General Secretary affirmed that Vietnam will make practical contributions, such as participating in peacekeeping operations to ensure stability in the Gaza Strip and humanitarian relief or post-conflict reconstruction activities.
During this working trip, the General Secretary had exchanges with senior leaders of countries, including leaders of countries in the Middle East region and countries in other regions attending the Meeting.
With the host country, General Secretary To Lam had a meeting with US President Donald Trump, received US Trade Representative Ambassador Jamieson Greer, had phone calls with US senators, and met with the Vietnamese community in the US.
According to Minister Le Hoai Trung, the General Secretary's working trip is part of the overall foreign affairs activities that Vietnam will soon deploy immediately after the 14th Party Congress and "in the near future, there will be very important foreign affairs activities of ours with neighboring countries".
