Vietnam - Laos relations in the coming period will strongly shift from good cooperation to effective cooperation, from commitment to specific results.

On the afternoon of February 5, General Secretary To Lam had a meeting with Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, on the occasion of leading a high-level delegation of the Party and State of Vietnam on a state visit to Laos.

Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone emphasized that General Secretary To Lam's choice of Laos as the first country in the foreign affairs program after the success of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, shows the highest priority in the relations between the two countries and this is the invaluable common asset of the two nations; the highest level of political trust between the two Parties and two States; and at the same time is a vivid proof of the special solidarity relationship between the two countries.

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the two sides continue to deepen the content of "strategic cohesion" agreed upon by the two countries in December 2025, thereby affirming the common vision, the interweaving of strategic interests and the long-term companion orientation for sustainable, self-reliant and prosperous development of the two nations.

The General Secretary welcomed the spirit of cooperation and drastic and specific direction that the Governments of the two countries have been and are coordinating to implement; requested the two Prime Ministers to continue to direct the agencies of the two countries to closely coordinate and actively implement and concretize the commitments and agreements of the high-level leaders of the two countries; requested the two countries to continue to consolidate political trust, maintain delegation exchanges and high-level contacts on all channels; coordinate to effectively implement the results of the 48th Meeting of the Vietnam - Laos Intergovernmental Committee and high-level agreements between the two countries, focusing on prioritizing socio-economic development cooperation.

The General Secretary requested the two sides to promote and create breakthroughs in economic, trade and investment cooperation; implement specific measures to strengthen connectivity and complementarity between the two economies, create a foundation for long-term cooperation and joint development; prioritize connecting transport infrastructure and energy infrastructure; promote information exchange, share macroeconomic management experiences, build an independent and self-reliant economy in the context of deep, substantive and effective international integration; strengthen cooperation in education and training, culture, digital transformation, innovation, application of science and technology in management and production; and at the same time promote the connection of the three economies of Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia according to the common understanding of the three sides.

The two leaders highly agreed on the direction of cooperation in the coming time in all fields, emphasizing that the two sides need to urgently and drastically concretize and effectively implement cooperation agreements between the two Parties and two Governments; affirming that promoting the content of strategic linkage is the "key" for a new stage of cooperation between the two countries; promoting bilateral trade in a balanced and sustainable direction; and creating more favorable conditions for businesses of the two countries to invest and do long-term business on each side. The two sides agreed to coordinate in developing plans and organizing major holidays well, especially the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in 2027.

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the next stage is to strongly shift from good cooperation to effective cooperation, from commitment to specific results, taking the interests of the people of the two countries as the highest measure.
