On the afternoon of February 5, in Vientiane capital, Laos, Politburo Member, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man had a meeting with Lao National Assembly Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane.
At the meeting, Lao National Assembly Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane expressed his pleasure to welcome National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on the occasion of participating in the delegation of General Secretary To Lam's state visit to Laos; affirming that the visit is of particular importance, a prominent milestone in the relations between the two countries, taking place in the context that the two Parties have just successfully organized the National Congress of each Party.
The two National Assembly Chairmen shared about the very effective high-level talks, showing a strategic vision of the two countries' relations, once again affirming the special and strategic relationship between the two countries.
The two National Assembly Chairmen expressed satisfaction with the strong development of Laos-Vietnam relations in all fields.
Regarding cooperation between the two legislative bodies, the two leaders highly appreciated the fact that the National Assemblies of the two countries have jointly published the book "50 years of relations between the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic", considering this as a vivid proof reflecting the comprehensive cooperation history between the two National Assemblies, affirming the correctness and consistency of the leadership role and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties and States, as well as the proactiveness, creativity and important role of the National Assemblies of the two countries in consolidating and developing Vietnam-Laos relations in the past time, and agreed to continue to promote propaganda about relations between the two countries in general and relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries in particular, especially for the younger generation.
The two National Assembly Chairmen emphasized that regular visits and contacts between leaders and National Assembly deputies of the two countries have created favorable conditions for exchanging experiences in legislative activities, supreme supervision and decision-making on important issues of each country.
In addition, close coordination at multilateral parliamentary forums, especially within the framework of IPU and AIPA, has made an important contribution to enhancing the position and prestige of each country, while spreading a common voice for peace, stability and sustainable development in the region.
The two National Assembly Chairmen requested the two legislative bodies to continue to closely coordinate, strengthen effective supervision of the implementation of high-level agreements; promote cooperation between the Committees of the National Assembly, strengthen exchanges between groups of friendly parliamentarians, female parliamentarians, and young parliamentarians; strengthen delegation exchanges, including localities, people's councils of localities, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, border exchanges, maintain a friendly border, cooperation and development; share information and experiences in arranging and consolidating the organizational structure of the National Assembly's agencies.
The two sides agreed on the direction of cooperation between the two National Assemblies in the coming time; assigned the National Assembly's Committee for National Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs of Vietnam and the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Lao National Assembly to urgently coordinate in drafting a memorandum of cooperation between the two National Assemblies, reporting to the two National Assembly Chairmen in the near future; and agreed to consider signing a new cooperation agreement suitable to the current development situation.
