On the morning of June 16, in Hanoi, Politburo Member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc attended the 20th anniversary of the Government Electronic Information Portal joining the global Internet (January 10, 2006 - January 10, 2026).
20 years ago, on January 10, 2006, Prime Minister Phan Van Khai officially launched the Government Website - now the Government Electronic Information Portal - to join the global internet.
Since then, the Government Electronic Information Portal has become the official information channel of the Government in the online environment, contributing to propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws; promptly conveying the direction and administration activities of the Government and the Prime Minister, and at the same time being an effective bridge between the Government and people and businesses.
In the context of national digital transformation being promoted, the Government Electronic Information Portal continues to affirm its pioneering role in applying technology, innovating policy communication methods, contributing to improving publicity and transparency, building a digital government, serving people and businesses better and better.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Standing Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the event marks the development and maturity of the Government Electronic Information Portal. In which the Portal is increasingly making important contributions to the national press system and this important event is also on the occasion of the 101st anniversary of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day.
He highly appreciated the innovation of the Government Electronic Information Portal in the past time in improving the quality of multi-platform propaganda work with modern, friendly, and rich forms. The unit has pioneered in using cross-border social networks to serve the communication of the direction and administration of the Government and the Prime Minister with about 20 million accesses per day.
The portal has been dynamic, creative, and proactive in organizing programs and live and online seminars with the participation of representatives of ministries, sectors, specialized agencies, National Assembly deputies, experts, and the business community...
Through this, many hot issues, many difficulties and obstacles in practice have been exchanged and answered promptly to clarify, contributing to providing official information, enhancing publicity, transparency and creating consensus in implementation.
On June 1, 2026, the Government issued Decree No. 196/2026/ND-CP stipulating the functions, tasks, powers and organizational structure of the Government Office. In which, the Government Electronic Information Portal was upgraded to the Government Information and Communications Department.
The establishment of the Government Department of Information and Communications is very necessary, serving policy communication.

In the coming time, the Standing Deputy Prime Minister requested the Government Office to direct the Government Electronic Information Portal (later the Government Information and Communications Department) to urgently arrange the apparatus to ensure streamlining and effective operation.
In which, special attention is paid to focusing on improving the information and communication work of the Government's main official policy, especially in the digital environment with the motto of proactiveness, timeliness, taking people and businesses as the center of service.
Build and develop multi-platform communication products, actively receive information from agencies as well as proactively monitor, coordinate, and grasp the actual situation to proactively advise and propose to the Government and the Prime Minister to consider and promptly direct urgent issues of public concern.
