It is difficult to be a true teacher if you are only good at your subject

Delegate Nguyen Anh Tri said that a person who is good at his profession but does not love people and does not want to be a teacher will find it difficult to be a true teacher.

On November 20, the National Assembly discussed in the hall the draft Law on Teachers.

Discussing at the meeting hall, delegate Nguyen Anh Tri (Hanoi City Delegation) said that the promulgation of the Law on Teachers is very necessary to ensure conditions for teachers to do a good job of educating people to fulfill the glorious task assigned by society.

At the same time, to help teachers cultivate, train, strive and for society to recognize the glory of teachers and respect, protect and trust...

According to delegate Nguyen Anh Tri, teaching is a special profession, teachers at any level must have special ethics.

"That is the Vietnamese human morality as the root, the foundation, raised to suit human education. Therefore, it is necessary to rewrite Clause 1 of Article 10 to make it clearer what the basic moral foundation of Vietnamese teachers is, on that basis are the standards, awareness, attitude, and behavior" - said the delegate of Hanoi City.

In addition, this delegate would like to add to point B in Clause 2, Article 9 the clause of regular training, self-cultivation and preservation. Because first of all, one must have it before one can preserve it. Moreover, teachers, whether standing on the podium or outside, must preserve the qualities of a teacher.

Regarding the policy of attracting teachers, delegate Nguyen Anh Tri found that there is still a lack of priority on ethical standards, standards of loving the teaching profession, and loving people. Although this is a difficult category to quantify, he hopes the drafting committee will pay attention.

"A person can be good at his/her profession but if he/she does not love people and does not want to be a teacher, he/she will never be a true and loyal teacher" - delegate Nguyen Anh Tri said.
