At the regular press conference on the afternoon of December 5, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang answered a number of questions related to recent political developments in South Korea.
Regarding Vietnam's view on the fact that on December 3, the President of South Korea declared martial law and then lifted it at the request of the National Assembly, Ms. Pham Thu Hang shared: "As a country with a comprehensive strategic partnership with South Korea, Vietnam is closely following the current developments in South Korea. We believe that South Korea will soon stabilize the situation and continue to develop strongly in the coming time."
Also at the press conference, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang answered questions about whether the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has a plan to protect citizens in Korea in case the situation becomes more tense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' recommendations for Vietnamese citizens living in Korea and intending to go to Korea at the present time.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang said: "According to information from the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea, recent developments in Korea have not had any impact on the lives of the Vietnamese community in Korea."
Ms. Hang added that after receiving information related to the current situation in Korea, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has directed the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea to urgently monitor related developments and immediately contact local authorities and Vietnamese associations in Korea to grasp the situation of citizens living, working and studying in Korea.
At the same time, the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea also immediately coordinated closely with the Vietnamese community and advised citizens to comply with local regulations and instructions, avoid crowded gatherings and keep in touch with the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea.
"Up to now, the Vietnamese community in Korea is still living, working and studying normally," Ms. Pham Thu Hang emphasized.
Ms. Hang added: "In the spirit of serving the people, considering citizen protection as one of the top priorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we continue to closely monitor the situation with the Vietnamese Embassy in Korea and are ready to take necessary citizen protection measures."
