On February 23 (ie, the 7th day of Tet), leaders of the City Party Committee and People's Committee of Can Tho City organized a working delegation to visit Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh's rice field (hamlet 2, Vi Thanh 1 commune), and at the same time launched a tree planting activity at the beginning of 2026, showing determination to promote sustainable agricultural development associated with environmental protection.

At Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh's rice field, the working delegation directly surveyed the smart and low-emission rice farming model. This is a model implemented by the National Agricultural Extension Center in coordination with the Agricultural Extension and Service Center (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City) and Bayer Vietnam Co., Ltd.

The model aims to apply technical advances in irrigation water management, fertilizers and pesticides, contributing to reducing production costs, limiting greenhouse gas emissions, and improving economic efficiency for farmers. City leaders highly appreciated the bold innovation of farmers' farming methods, and at the same time requested specialized sectors to continue to replicate environmentally friendly production models.
On the same morning, in Tan Hoa commune, Can Tho City People's Committee organized the launching ceremony of "Tet tree planting" in 2026. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Chi Hung - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - said that for many years, the city has always identified planting trees and protecting forests as an important task, associated with the sustainable development goals of today and future generations.

In the context of increasingly complex climate change and high environmental pressure, planting green trees not only creates a "bright - green - clean - beautiful" urban landscape, but also contributes to improving air quality, protecting ecosystems, and improving the quality of life of the people. For a central urban area in the Mekong Delta region like Can Tho, developing a green tree system is also a practical solution to adapt to climate change, towards building an ecological, civilized, and modern city.
According to Mr. Tran Chi Hung, "Tet tree planting" is not only a spring activity with traditional meaning but also a specific and practical action for the environment and the sustainable future of the city.

He requested all levels and sectors to continue to promote widespread propaganda about the meaning of planting and protecting green trees; organize the implementation of practical, effective, and economical movements; associated with building new rural areas, urban embellishment and raising environmental protection awareness in the community.
Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee called on all officials, civil servants, public employees, union members, association members and people of the city to actively respond to the tree planting movement; each person plants one more green tree, each agency, unit, and residential area builds one more green space, so that Can Tho becomes greener, more beautiful and more livable.
