On May 23, the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) held a workshop on developing standards for training programs of military higher education, foreign language teaching and learning, and information technology (IT) at military academies and schools.
General Nguyen Tan Cuong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Central Military Commission, Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, Deputy Minister of National Defense - chaired the workshop.
Notably, in recent times, military academies and schools have developed 32 training programs for military higher education levels, including 17 universities, 6 master's degrees, and 9 doctoral degrees.
The Standing Agency synthesizes and completes documents submitted to the Chief of the General Staff, including: standard framework of the university education program with 10 components; regulations on training time and number of credits.
At the workshop, delegates focused on discussing and proposing to continue investing in modern facilities and equipment; improving the professional qualifications of lecturers; standardizing teaching content close to the reality of digital transformation; building a digital capacity framework for learners; building a set of smart school criteria; making foreign languages (English, Russian) a mandatory language in the training program for officers at the university level, a graduation exam subject...
Concluding the workshop, General Nguyen Tan Cuong acknowledged and commended the agencies, units, academies and schools in the entire army for thoroughly grasping and implementing many breakthrough solutions to strongly innovate education and training.
To implement the motto "The quality of school training is the unit's combat readiness", improve the quality of education and training, General Nguyen Tan Cuong requested that academies and schools coordinate with competent authorities to complete the supplement and completion of the training program for military higher education qualifications before June 15, 2025; at the same time, review, adjust and supplement new contents.
The General Staff will preside over and direct the Department of Military Training - Schools to develop a Directive of the Minister of National Defense on enhancing training, fostering foreign languages, IT, digital transformation, to be completed in mid-July 2025.
Deploy a shared digital learning materials resource warehouse, including foreign language teaching and learning data, in-person and online IT on the military data transmission network, to be completed in September 2025.
The Academy of Military Sciences and the Military Technical Academy jointly prepare textbooks, documents, and lectures on English, specialized Russian, and neighboring languages and IT, digital transformation; build model classrooms, completed in August 2025, serving schools and units throughout the army.
In the coming time, General Nguyen Tan Cuong asked agencies, units, institutes and schools to focus on thoroughly and strictly implement the resolutions, conclusions and directives of the Central Government, the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of Defense on breakthroughs to develop science, technology, innovation and digital transformation; Projects, projects, plans on education and training, especially in foreign languages and IT.
