On April 29, at the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the Steering Committee for arrangement of administrative units at the commune level, Nghe An Provincial Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung encouraged localities to reconsider the naming of administrative units after arranging in the spirit of not using the district -level unit name associated with the order number to suit the general spirit of localities across the country.
Regarding the content of adjusting the Resolution of the People's Council at all levels, basically considering adjusting the name of the commune administrative unit after arranging; Do not adjust the administrative boundaries of the communes after arranging. Regarding the orientation, taking the name of the district administrative unit for 1 central commune, typical of that district.
The remaining communes, based on the Central Government's instructions, choose a name that is suitable for the spirit of concision, ease of remembering, easy to understand, and can be associated with place names, history, and culture, but must create high consensus among the people.
Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung suggested that districts implement the process of adjusting names to ensure compliance with regulations, collect opinions on household representatives, through commune-level People's Councils and district-level People's Councils.
Districts study the name change plan and send it to the Department of Home Affairs before May 5. The time to complete the next steps for district-level units is before May 7; for provincial level, the Provincial People's Council will approve on May 8.
Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Duc Trung also requested to strengthen propaganda and orient public opinion to create high unity among cadres, party members and people, emphasizing that this is a political task that needs to focus on drastic and methodical leadership and direction.
According to the Resolution recently passed by the Provincial People's Council with 100% of delegates voting in favor, Nghe An will reduce from 412 commune-level administrative units to 130 units (a reduction of 282 units, equivalent to 68.45%). This project received 96.1% of voters representing households in favor.
Currently, the whole province has 6 localities named new communes according to place names (such as Ky Son, Tuong Duong...), and 14 units according to the plan to name districts with consecutive numbers.
At the meeting, members of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, members of the Provincial Steering Committee, and leaders of localities all agreed to change the name from district-level administrative units with the consecutive numbers associated with the names of the place, history, and culture.
