On the morning of April 28, the People's Council (People's Council) of An Giang province, term X, term 2021-2025 opened the 29th session (thematic). Mr. Le Van Nung - Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Council - chaired the meeting. Attending were Mr. Ho Van Mung - Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of An Giang People's Committee.
At the session, delegates discussed and approved many important contents. In which, there is content related to the policy of arranging and naming communes and wards after the merger.
Accordingly, delegates discussed the adjustment of not naming communes and wards according to the names of district-level administrative units associated with the status, such as: East, West, South, North and Central.
With 100% of delegates in favor, the Provincial People's Council issued a Resolution, An Giang province still has 44 commune-level administrative units and 10 ward-level administrative units after the reorganization.
At the same time, it also approved the keeping of 18 administrative unit names that had been named in conjunction with the long history of the previous culture, and adjusted the replacement of commune and ward names after district-level units with the status.
Notably, this new naming plan has revived many famous landmarks, such as: Cam Mountain, O Lam, Cu Lao Gieng... In which, Cam Mountain has a mountain over 700m high, known as the roof of the Mekong Delta, where the climate and natural and peaceful habitats are located. O Lam is known as a place that has long preserved many unique cultural activities of the Khmer people, notably Di Da, Cham Rieng...
According to this Resolution, Long Xuyen City has Long Xuyen, Binh Duc, My Thoi wards and My Hoa Hung commune. Chau Doc city has Chau Doc ward and Vinh Te ward. Tan Chau town has 2 wards Tan Chau, Long Phu and 3 communes Tan An, Chau Phong, Vinh Xuong. Tinh Bien town has 3 wards: Thoi Son, Tinh Bien, Chi Lang along with 2 communes: An Cu and Nui Cam.
An Phu district has An Phu, Vinh Hau, Nhon Hoi, Khanh Binh, Phu Huu communes. Phu Tan district has Phu Tan, Phu An, Binh Thanh Dong, Cho Vam, Hoa Lac, Phu Lam communes.
Chau Phu district has Chau Phu, My Duc, Vinh Thanh Trung, Binh My, Thanh My Tay communes. Tri Ton district has Tri Ton, Ba Chuc, O Lam, Co To, Vinh Gia communes.
Chau Thanh district has An Chau, Binh Hoa, Can Dang, Vinh Hanh, Vinh An communes. Cho Moi district has Cho Moi, Cu Lao Gieng, Hoi An, Long Dien, Nhon My, Long Kien communes. Thoai Son district has Thoai Son, Oc Eo, Dinh My, Phu Hoa, Vinh Trach and Tay Phu communes.
