The thread that closely connects all classes of people
Vietnam is a country with thousands of years of history, going through many changes and ups and downs, accumulating and creating its own cultural identity, making up the "soul of the nation".
Culture is the spiritual foundation of society, and accordingly, culture is also the foundation of the Party. V.I. Lenin once pointed out that it is necessary to build a ruling party that is truly representative of the "intelligence, honor and conscience of the era". President Ho Chi Minh also affirmed: "Our Party is moral and civilized".
The birth of the Party is a product of culture, the result of the smooth combination of the pinnacle of human culture (Marxism-Leninism) with the quintessence of national culture (patriotic movement and revolutionary struggle movement of the Vietnamese working class).
Over the past 95 years (1930-2025), the Communist Party of Vietnam has led the nation through countless challenges, gradually moving the country from oppression and poverty to the light of independence, freedom and happiness. One of the greatest marks of the Party is the leading role of culture - the soul of the nation.
Since its inception, the Party has identified culture as not only an important front in the revolutionary cause, but also a spiritual foundation, a close bond connecting all classes of people to build and defend the Fatherland.
The Party's guiding viewpoint on culture has been clearly and consistently expressed over the years. From the 1943 Vietnamese Culture Outline - the manifesto affirming that culture must serve the resistance war, national construction, closely linked to the nation, science and the masses, to the 2021 National Cultural Conference - which affirmed the role of culture in the sustainable development strategy, our Party has always been consistent with the thinking that "culture is the spiritual foundation of society, both the goal and the driving force of development".
Important economic drivers
Thanks to the Party's correct orientation, Vietnamese culture has continuously developed, both preserving long-standing traditional values and not being afraid to innovate to adapt to the times.
Many of Vietnam's tangible and intangible cultural heritages have been recognized by UNESCO, becoming the pride of not only the Vietnamese people but also all of humanity. Hue royal court music echoes the glorious past of the dynasty; the space of gong culture in the Central Highlands is like an endless epic about the mountains and forests; Phu Tho xoan singing distills the quintessence of traditional folklore...
Performing arts have also undergone strong changes. Tuong, Cheo, Cai Luong are not only preserved but also innovated to better suit the contemporary atmosphere. Vietnamese cinema is increasingly confident in its presence on the international stage with films that bear a strong cultural imprint but contain global stories. Modern Vietnamese fine arts, music, literature and art have been creating new names and unique styles that are still imbued with the Vietnamese spirit.
More importantly, culture has not only played a spiritual role but has become an important economic driver. Cultural industries, from cultural tourism, cinema, to performing arts, have contributed to creating a new face for the Vietnamese economy.
Each cultural product, from a work of art to a traditional dish, not only carries material value but also tells a fascinating story about Vietnamese identity, history and people to the world.
Firmly conquer new heights
In the new era - the era of integration and globalization, culture is not only the foundation for preserving identity but also the strength for the Vietnamese people to firmly step on the journey to conquer new heights, affirming their position on the world map.
The new era - the era of national development opens up unprecedented opportunities, while posing many challenges for cultural development. International integration requires us to maintain our identity, while the transformation of modern society requires innovation to adapt.
But from historical lessons and current achievements, we can firmly believe that, with the wise leadership of the Party and the solidarity of the entire nation, culture will continue to be a beacon illuminating the path to sustainable development, creating a unique identity in the global era.
Culture is not only a legacy of the past but also a living resource for the future, the strength for the Vietnamese people to reach out to the world, affirm their own values, and continue to write new, brilliant chapters in history.
