On the morning of May 24, Politburo member and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh chaired a meeting of the Government Standing Committee to listen to reports, assess the situation and give opinions on the orientations, solutions and further work after the second round of negotiations on the bilateral Agreement on counter- trade between Vietnam and the United States.
The second round of negotiations on the bilateral agreement on counter- trade between Vietnam and the United States will be held from May 19-22, 2025 in Washington, D.C., United States.
After listening to reports and opinions at the meeting and making a concluding speech, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly appreciated the efforts of relevant ministries, branches, agencies and localities in preparing and conducting negotiations.
The results of the recent negotiations have shown positive signs, the two sides have the opportunity to exchange, provide, and share information and circumstances of each other, on that basis to better understand and sympathize with each other in the current context.
At the same time, he proposed positive orientations for the next negotiations, towards suitable and balanced results for both sides.
In addition, Vietnamese levels, ministries, branches, authorities and enterprises have continued to contact and work with the US side in many flexible and diverse forms to contribute to promoting the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in general and promoting negotiations in particular.
Ministries, branches and agencies, according to their functions, tasks and powers, promptly provided information to the negotiation delegation and reported to the Government Standing Committee on leadership and direction.
Agencies, units, localities, and businesses continue to negotiate and promote the purchase and sale of goods that the United States has strengths and Vietnam needs to contribute to the trade balance of the two countries as soon as possible, such as Boeing aircraft, LNG, some agricultural products, etc.
The Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and relevant ministries and branches have reviewed and promptly handled issues related to projects that the US side is interested in.
Regarding the next work, the Prime Minister stated that the results have been achieved, on the principle of harmonious benefits and risks of sharing between the two parties, ensuring the core interests of Vietnam, contributing to strengthening, strengthening and promoting comprehensive strategic partnerships in Vietnam - USA, bringing benefits to the two countries, consumers of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, development of cooperation in the region; There are appropriate and effective plans and measures to continue negotiating, trying to declare the end of negotiations as soon as possible.
