Immediately after the end of the 31st APEC Ministers of Commerce Conference (MRT 31), Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade, Head of the Government negotiation Delegation Nguyen Hong Dien had a direct meeting with US Trade Representative General (USTR) Jamieson Greer.
This is the first direct ministerial meeting between Vietnam and the United States after the Online meeting on April 12, 2025, aiming to negotiate the Vietnam - United States counterpart trade agreement under the direction of the two countries' senior leaders.
The negotiations took place in a spirit of frankness and constructiveness, openness and flexibility. demonstrating the high efforts of both sides in building a stable, harmonious economic, trade and investment relationship commensurate with the Vietnam - US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. On the basis of respect for sovereignty, self-reliance, political institutions, harmony, balance of interests and compliance with international law and practice and the development level of each country.
US Trade Representative General Jamieson Greer acknowledged and highly appreciated Vietnam's goodwill and proactiveness in actively preparing for negotiations between the two sides, basically agreeing with Vietnam's approach and proposals.
The United States hopes that with the efforts of both sides, the technical negotiations in the coming days will achieve positive results, bring practical benefits to the people and business community of the two countries, and contribute to the stability and sustainable development in bilateral trade relations and comprehensive strategic partnerships of the two countries.
On that basis, the two Ministers highly agreed on issues of principles, approaches, content orientation and negotiation plans. Thereby, creating a basis for the next negotiation sessions to achieve positive results.
