On the morning of June 30, in Can Tho City, the Steering Committee 2088 held a Ceremony to announce the Resolution and Decision of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units, establishing party organizations, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of cities, communes, wards, and special zones.
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

In Decision No. 1296/QD-TTg, the Prime Minister appointed Mr. Tran Van Lau, Deputy Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee (new) for the 2020 - 2025 term to hold the position of Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee (new) for the 2021-2026 term.
And appointed 6 Vice Chairmen of the Can Tho City People's Committee including: Nguyen Ngoc Dep, Vuong Quoc Nam, Nguyen Van Khoi, Nguyen Van Hoa, Tran Chi Hung.
Mr. Tran Van Lau was born in 1970, hometown Hoa Tu 1 commune (My Xuyen district, Soc Trang province). He has a Master's degree in Party Building and State Government, a Bachelor's degree in Politics majoring in Social Management and a Senior degree in Political Theory.
Mr. Lau came from the army, studied at the Military Region 9 School for the Gifted (1985-1989), then continued his training at the Engineering Officer School. Since 1990, he has worked in the armed forces, holding many positions at the Military Commands (CHQS) at all levels in Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces. He has held positions such as Political Commissar, Deputy Political Commissar, Political Commissar and Commander of the Military Command of Soc Trang province, and was promoted to Colonel.
From November 2020, Mr. Tran Van Lau has held the position of Deputy Secretary of the Soc Trang Provincial Party Committee, and is also the Chairman of the Soc Trang Provincial People's Committee for the 2020-2025 term. During his working career, he has made many contributions to the military and state management fields, being awarded the Medal of Military Exploit) 2013; Medal of Meritorious Soldier of First, Second, and Third Class.
