On July 21, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung inspected the work of overcoming the consequences of flash floods in Muong Than commune, visited affected families, encouraged people who are evacuating and surveyed the area planned for the construction of a concentrated resettlement area.

Participating in the working delegation were Lieutenant General Le Quang Dao, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army; Deputy Chairman of the Government Office Pham Manh Cuong; representatives of leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Ministry of Agriculture and Environment; leaders of Lai Chau province and Muong Than commune.

Immediately after the flash flood occurred, Lai Chau province mobilized military forces, police, militia and local authorities to deploy search and rescue, overcome landslides, approach isolated areas, and urgently relocate 1,686 people out of dangerous areas.

At the scene, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung listened to reports on the damage situation, the progress of searching for missing victims and the work of overcoming the consequences.

The Deputy Prime Minister also came to offer incense to the deceased victims, visit families with deceased relatives and encourage households being evacuated.

Sharing the losses of the people, the Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the efforts of functional forces and local authorities in rescue and relief work and supporting people to overcome the consequences of natural disasters.

Emphasizing the requirement to ensure the safety of life and stability of people's lives as a top priority task, the Deputy Prime Minister requested localities to continue to focus on overcoming landslide points, soon clear traffic routes, restore electricity, water and communication.

At the same time, review areas at risk of landslides to proactively plan relocation, not allowing people to return to places that are not safe.

In the work program, the Deputy Prime Minister also surveyed the area planned for the construction of a concentrated resettlement area for households who lost their homes due to natural disasters in Muong Than commune.

The Deputy Prime Minister requested localities to accelerate investment procedures, ensure construction progress, and pay attention to the quality of works and essential infrastructure so that people can soon stabilize their lives.

Previously, on July 19, Lai Chau Provincial People's Committee issued an order to build an emergency project to arrange accommodation for about 24 households who lost their homes due to flash floods.

The resettlement area has an area of about 10,000m2, with synchronous investment in transportation, electricity, water supply and drainage, and infrastructure items serving daily life, contributing to helping people soon stabilize their lives and restore production after natural disasters.

Towards the people affected by floods

From July 16 to July 17, 2026, prolonged heavy rain occurred in Muong Than commune, Lai Chau province, causing flash floods, landslides and serious landslides, sweeping away 13 houses of people. By 5 pm on July 20, 2026, natural disasters had caused 07 deaths, 02 missing people and 08 injured people, causing heavy damage to people and property, pushing many families into extremely difficult circumstances.
