Can Tho plans to invest more than 20,700 billion VND
In the afternoon of September 12, continuing his working trip to the Mekong Delta, Politburo Member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc and leaders of central ministries and sectors inspected the implementation of power projects in Can Tho City.
According to Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), based on the Plan and Plan to implement the adjusted Power Plan VIII and the Can Tho City Plan, EVN and its units are implementing many projects to ensure power supply and meet the socio-economic development needs of the city.
In the period 2026-2030, Can Tho is expected to deploy 8 transmission grid projects, including 4 500kV grid projects and 4 220kV grid projects; 4 110kV grid projects and other medium and low voltage grid projects. Total expected investment capital is about 20,700 billion VND.
By the end of 2025, the total capacity of power sources in Can Tho will reach about 2,827MW, equivalent to about 20% of the scale oriented to 2035. According to the adjusted Power Plan VIII, the total power capacity of power sources in the city by 2035 is expected to be about 14,512MW.
To meet the load demand, and at the same time relieve the capacity of power sources in Can Tho and surrounding areas, Power Plan VIII adjusts the development orientation of 42 500kV and 220kV transmission grid projects. Among these, there are 14 500kV and 220kV substations, with a total scale of more than 10,500MVA.
EVN said that in the past time, many 500kV, 220kV and 110kV power grid projects have been delayed due to problems with land, difficulties in negotiating route directions, station locations and overlapping with other plans.
To overcome this, EVN proposed that the People's Committee of Can Tho City soon develop a map and plant markers for the direction of power lines and transformer stations from 110kV voltage and above in the area. Thereby, creating conditions to accelerate the progress of power projects, ensuring electricity supply requirements to serve the socio-economic development of the city.
For transmission grid projects oriented towards socialization, EVN proposes that the People's Committee of Can Tho City organize the selection of suitable investors to implement in the spirit of Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW of the Politburo and Electricity Law No. 61/2024/QH15.
EVN also proposed that the Government Office and the People's Committee of Can Tho City continue to create conditions and support EVN and electricity units to implement projects according to the adjusted Power Plan VIII and city plans.
Energy development is the nucleus for Can Tho to achieve sustainable growth
Speaking at the working session, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc emphasized that ensuring energy security and double-digit economic growth is an extremely important task.
According to the Standing Deputy Prime Minister, this requirement is even more meaningful for Can Tho in the context that the city's industrial proportion is still low. The development of industry, industrial parks and energy centers is the nucleus for the city to grow sustainably, striving to become the growth pole of the whole country.
To solve the difficulties and obstacles of the electricity industry, the Standing Deputy Prime Minister requested that the Ministry of Industry and Trade coordinate with relevant units to pay special attention to and consider adding some power projects of Can Tho to the revised Power Plan VIII, especially projects with investors, offshore wind power projects.
The Standing Deputy Prime Minister assigned the Ministry of Industry and Trade to soon organize working sessions to resolve investors' problems related to the research and expansion of the planning of Song Hau Power Center.
On the local side, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen - Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - said that with great infrastructure potential, the city has proposed Petrovietnam to submit to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Government for consideration of establishing a regional-level Energy Industry Center in Can Tho City.
Leaders of Can Tho City affirmed that the locality will continue to accompany, remove difficulties and create the most favorable conditions for energy corporations to deploy and complete assigned tasks.
