At a working session on the progress of transport projects in the Southwest region on September 12 in Ca Mau, Politburo Member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc noted that the progress of some projects is still slow. The component project of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway managed by Can Tho City has only reached about 58% of output. Projects implemented by the Ministry of National Defense in Ca Mau face difficulties due to weak soil conditions.
The Standing Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, branches, localities, investors, and contractors to strictly implement Official Dispatch No. 53/CD-TTg dated August 12, 2026 of the Prime Minister, focusing on removing difficulties, accelerating construction, disbursement, and supply of materials. Construction quality must be put first, especially projects constructed on weak soil.
For the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, relevant units are required to strictly control progress, increase manpower, machinery, equipment, organize 3-shift, 4-shift construction; proactively propose technical solutions to shorten loading time and complete the project soon.
Regarding material sources, the Standing Deputy Prime Minister requested Can Tho City and An Giang, Dong Thap, and Vinh Long provinces to review supply sources, increase capacity, open more mines, and transfer materials between localities.
An Giang is required to prioritize supporting the remaining stone source for urgent projects. Can Tho City urgently receives and stockpiles the exploited stone, not letting materials that are available but have not been put into use while other projects lack supply.
The Standing Deputy Prime Minister requested localities to proactively work directly, closely grasp the coordination of materials, not just send documents and wait for resolution. If domestic supply does not meet, study importing sand and stone from Cambodia. In case of cost incursions, competent authorities should study appropriate mechanisms.
Regarding expressway projects in Ca Mau, the Standing Deputy Prime Minister requested the Ministry of National Defense to continue to accelerate the Ca Mau - Cai Nuoc, Cai Nuoc - Dat Mui expressways, ensuring completion according to the plan. The plan to convert some sections to overpasses must be considered carefully, not to prolong construction time, avoiding investment waste.
The Standing Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that projects that have been decided and assigned tasks by the National Assembly and the Prime Minister must be implemented on schedule, ensuring quality; arising problems must be reported promptly for handling.
