The 7-day Tet holiday plan 2027 is agreed upon by many agencies

LƯƠNG HẠNH |

The Ministry of Home Affairs proposed choosing the option of Tet Nguyen Dan 2027 holiday for 7 days from December 28th and received the consensus of many agencies.

According to the provisions of the 2019 Labor Code, employees are entitled to leave work and receive full salary on holidays and Tet every year.

Article 112 clearly states the holidays including: New Year's Day (1 day), Lunar New Year (5 days), Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day April 30 (1 day), International Labor Day May 1 (1 day), National Day September 2 (2 days) and Hung Kings Commemoration Day (1 day, March 10 of the lunar calendar).

Information related to the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday is receiving attention as the Ministry of Home Affairs has proposed 2 options to get opinions.

Option 1, 5 days off according to regulations, including 2 days before Tet and 3 days after Tet.

According to this ministry, because there are 2 weekly days off that coincide with Tet holidays, civil servants and public employees are entitled to 2 days off compensation according to regulations.

Thus, during the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday, civil servants and public employees are off from Thursday, February 4, 2027 (ie, December 28 of the year Binh Ngo) to the end of Wednesday, February 10, 2027 (ie, January 5 of the year Dinh Mui).

The total Tet holiday is 7 consecutive days, including 5 Lunar New Year holidays and 2 compensatory weekly holidays.

Option 2, 5 days off according to regulations, including 1 day before Tet and 4 days after Tet.

With this option, swap Friday, February 12, 2027 to Saturday, February 27, 2027, weekly holiday.

Thus, during the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday, civil servants and public employees are off from Friday, February 5, 2027 (ie, December 29 of the year Binh Ngo) to the end of Sunday, February 14, 2027 (ie, January 9 of the year Dinh Mui).

The total Lunar New Year holiday in 2027 is 10 consecutive days (including 5 Lunar New Year holidays, 2 compensatory weekly days off, 1 swap day off and 2 weekly days off).

With the 2 options mentioned above, the Ministry of Home Affairs proposes to choose the first option. Because this option allows civil servants and public employees to take leave from December 28th of the lunar calendar, creating conditions for people working far from home to have more time to travel, shop, prepare and clean up their houses before Tet.

In case of choosing option 2, the need for concentrated travel in a very short time may increase pressure on traffic and transportation, especially in large cities and traffic hubs.

For employees, based on actual conditions, employers choose to take 1 day off at the end of the year Binh Ngo and 4 days off at the beginning of the year Dinh Mui or 2 days off at the end of the year Binh Ngo and 3 days off at the beginning of the year Dinh Mui or 3 days off at the end of the year Binh Ngo and 2 days off at the beginning of the year Dinh Mui.

Employers notify employees of the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday plan at least 30 days before implementation.

If the weekly holiday coincides with the holiday and Tet holiday specified in Clause 1, Article 112 of the Labor Code, the employer shall arrange for compensatory weekly holiday for the employee on the next working day according to the provisions of Clause 3, Article 111 of the Labor Code.

Responding to the official dispatch of the Ministry of Home Affairs on seeking opinions on the holiday and Tet holiday plan for 2027, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor agreed to choose option one, i.e., 5 days off according to regulations, including 2 days before Tet, 3 days after Tet and compensatory 2 days off due to weekend overlap. The total holiday time is 7 days, from February 4 to the end of February 10, 2027.

The Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also have opinions related to the holiday and Tet 2027 plan similar to the choice of the VGCL.
